Hi. I became a landed immigrant in Oct. 2004, and I just noticed on my Indian Passport that it is expiring in March 2007.
If I send it to the Indian Consulate in Toronto, they require me to send the Original Passport and Original Landing papers.
My question is: Will I get my Original Passport back? If not, what happens to the Immigrant Visa that was stamped in it? Also, will I get my Original Landing Papers back?
Please help.
Thanks,
A
In my case they did return the old expired passport, duly stamped as 'CANCELLED'.

Earlier on, when the old passport expired, they would issue a new one and mark the old one Canceled (with all visas stamped in that passport still being valid). So in other words, if you had a Visa, eg. a US visa(that had not expired) in your old passport, you could travel on that using your old passport, along with a new valid passport.
Can someone clarify if this is still the case?
Indian consulate returns all documents (old and new passport) old one cancelled ..when you travel i think the PR CARD is required though old passport can serve as a proof of the old stamped visa.
Yes, I was more concerned about other (non-Canadian) visas in my old passport, so I guess basically what I'm hearing is that visas in your old passport(canceled) remain valid..
