Hi guyz there at the meeting.. i am sorry.. i had to leave without saying a proper good bye! i had to leave!

coming to my reaction about the meeting..
its very helpful. ofcourse anybody would say that atleast out of courtesy. but I am telling this very frankly.. i enjoyed being there.

despite being in this country for over 4 years, i never participated in any community related stuff. this one.. i joined just to meet people. thought i have some spare time .. why not give a hand for a good cause.

there are many good things in this meeting.. it was awesome so many indians coming together not just to spend some time.. but to offer some help to new comers.

thanks chandresh and reshmi

Reached the meeting around 1 hour before because I had no idea where the place was.

Definitely worth going to the meeting but still much needs to be done. First forum where I saw so many desis. So many people willing to help for free. This is unique because in Canada nothing is free!

There needs to be a yellow pages sort of thing where you can put down
your name, your email ID, phone number, address, messenger ID, best time to call, etc., willing to help in which field and whether free or paid or discounted. It should be protected from search engines. Once your ID is indexed by search engines, chances are you will get a lot of junk e-mail. Such section can be protected by a password or some such thing. There were plenty of IT guys there who can work that out.

Chandresh was careful to keep out commercial interests out of the group. At the same time, a question was raised that arranging a place for meeting costs money. I think people attending future meetings can contribute money equally to the cost of meeting or we can have sponsers like the people who contacted Chandresh to put up their flyers or brochures. Take money from them to advertise which can make up for cost of meeting. Main thing is that we do not go astray from the objective of the meeting. A poll also can be created for that if you want, you want to contribute money for the meeting or you do not mind sponsers and advertising. I think canadiandesi.com as such would also require web advertisement to sustain itself even though it was not created with commercial interest in mind.

It is strange that in factories I find people working who had been in labour jobs for 1-2 years or more but had engineering, accounting, MBA, or such background in India. In Canadiandesi.com meeting, there were only very few people doing labour jobs now but they were also new immigrants with about 2-3 months in Canada.

Canadiandesi.com is a wonderful site for Indians immigrating to Canada. I could not find a site equal to it. I could not find a site that gives such information about New Zealand, Australia, or UK and what is the ground reality there, how much people struggle, how much earn, how much they spend, etc.

Thanks for organizing the meeting. I hope it continues to grow!

Hi Everyone,

I think the meeting went very well and would like to thank all the organizers and everyone who attended the meeting. There is so much that needs to be done and can be done if we all join hands, also new immigrants can get motivation from out of all this.
I have a suggestion to make, when people who attended the meeting post their replies to this topic, please if they don't mind can you all also mention your real names, because it is difficult to give faces to the user ids, but of course who so ever wants to remain discreet they are welcome to do so.
I am Bijal and I have already offered my help at the meeting if anyone who wishes to contact me can do so by e-mailing me at
Also would like to request the organizers to put up a directory with names and phone no.s of all the people who attended the meeting and also anyone else who might be interested in adding their names and phone no.s.
I do believe that it was agreed by everyone in the meeting about adding everybody's names and no.s.

We have nice weather today. It snowed during night and morning, but much better than yesterday.

However it was much nicer to see Desis attending this meeting from different parts of Canada, with different education background, with different Canadian age ranging from few days to 25 years.

I am impressed with the number of people attended, and more impressed with everybody's willingness to help fellow desis.

There are number of people came up with offer to help in following area:

-- Air port pickup
-- Intial stay, help with all requirements during first few days in Canada
-- Insurance helps and awareness
-- Mortgage help
-- Computer and Hardware help, selection of proper computer and peripherals
-- Professional Engineering Registration guidence and help
-- CGA Preparation help
-- Help with Human Rights Issues
-- Resume writing
-- Interviewing Skills Development
-- Computer Classes
-- Study Guidence for young kids and students coming from India to Study Canada
-- Export/Import
-- First time Income Tax Return.

We had experts from many discliplines:

Accounting
Graphics
Computer Software Programming
Hardware and Networking
Auto Insurance
Mortgage Consultans
Real Estate
Tax Consultants
Immigration Laws
Chemical Engineering
BioPhysics
Hindi Teaching
Finance
Human Resouces
Export/Import
Banking
Web Hosting
Immigration
and many more..

Thanks to everybody who attended this one.

Special Thanks to Massood who flew all the way from Vancouver just to attend this meeting. (He came at 3.15 directly from air-port and left for air-port at 5.45 as his flight was at 6.45, no wonder why he is so popular among all canadiandesis)

Another special thanks to Jake3D and Biju for coming from Montreal

Raj, Thanks for Coming first - it was encouraging to see someone before time!

Guys,

We have discussed so much during the meeting. Lots of Ideas. I need to keep adding stuff to this site to met the demand. Lot of programming work needs to be done. I might need help from people.

For those who don't know what is required to do programming on this site - please read below.

It is written in php with mySql database. Both are open sources. php is quite similar to c and mySql is just another good database support sql.

I am not sure how can I split the source code to support co-operative development, but we can definately think about something.

Have a nice remaining weekend guys.
