Hi All,
As being a desi member i have realised that i will get some advice from this forum, so i convinced my friend to post message on his behalf as he has comminication problem.
My friend has 2.5 year old son. It's the first babby in his family of TWO. My friend work morning and his wife work mid-night shift. Now his son is not speaking so they are very much concern about it. On top they have visited doctor/speech pathologist and finally they said his son has Austim.
I tired to explain him that some kids are slow in growth and i remebered his son starts walking at age of i think 22 months so he will pick up. But my friend is so much worried. If anybody can share your story may be i will try to explain him.
Any advice will be always welcome. Im concern about both of his health as they are worried a lot.
Thanks
I dont have any experinces with Autustic children .... but my daughter has a kid in her class who is autistic. She has a teacher with her full time during her school hours. In fact we had invited the kid for her birthday and this teacher also came along. I was really impressed with the way the teacher was handling the kid, she was really caring.
So i guess your friend should try to get information on what kind of care is available here. I know for sure they have lot of programs here to help people who require special care.
I will also try to get some information
Check this info.

I do not know about Austim but my son started speaking at the age of 3.5yrs. when my inlaws came and he had someone to talk to most of the time.
More than us our parents in India were worried abot him and because of their advice we went to the doctor too she said that sometimes it happens because first baby do not get to interact with other kids. When they start going to school they will pick up. My daughter, on the other hand started talking at less than 2yrs.
hope it helps.
Clinically diagnosed Autistic children should receive the required treatment and therapy. That would help child to grow into a self dependent adult. It is easier to advice but child's parent have to learn to live with the situation. My relative is a therapist and she tells us, most of the time parents are not able to accept the fact and want child to behave normal. That is not going to happen, let child live their childhood. Just because of the condition they are not different.
In my opinion your friend should be consulting a professional for the proper treatment. In some cases parent wait for child to improve on their own. That creates further complications.
I am from family of therapists, and that is what they all strongly believe. A proper treatment at right time is what these child deserve.

My son has autism. First thing your friend should do is to get the child a psychiatric evaluation. That is very important here in Canada for the child to get any help, in the school, in the community and the province to spend money on those. Have their family doctor refer the child to a psychologist/psychiatrist and get the help suggested by the doctor, usually from community mental health clinic. Check community mental health website and go and talk to them. They would direct future course. Loose no time, make it like yesterday. Heed other suggestions posted here too. Say my good luck to your friend.
