I am a US citizen born in the US. My mother was born in Canada but married a US citizen before my birth. He is not my father. I was born in 1971. I was curious if I could still get citizenship in Canada because my mother is a citizen.

Thanks again for the info. As far as I know I was never registered with the Canadian goverment. I wasnt aware that was required. I will look into immigration and hopefully something will work there. I have been trying for 3 years to get to Canada.

If your Mother or your Father did register you with the Canadian Government as a child born to a Mother outside of Canada, hoping that she might some time return back and you along with her, then, obtain those papers or the document that she has with her. Then approach a Canadian High Commission and ask them to permit you to obtain the Citizenship on payment of a fee of $100.00. I was under the impression that you have most or all of the papers there with you.
You can also find out if there is a way that she can register your birth now? being so late.
If you do not have such papers, then she may have to return back and then might be in a better position to talk to the Immigration or an expert and ask for alternate solution here.
If every thing else fails, apply to immigrate. You will be ahead of the game. You are only 36 now. They are looking for people like you here.
Good Luck.
Freddie.
I heard that there was a newspaper article here in Canada asking people to stand upto this question, when they were bringing in returning immigrants from war torn countries. Some one might have seen such an article in the local papers. They will be in a better position to respond to seeing any such material. F
