For USA visitor visa at Toronto US consulate, do they allow a relative who can traslate for the parent who is appearing for the interview?

I escorted my friend two years back and helped him with translation ..
I dont know if anything has changed since than ...

I went with my mother who applied for the visa. I spoke on behalf of her but they will allow you to translate the Q not the answers. As an example: They asked me to ask her who am I. I said her son. The visa officer said to me tell her the Q and let her reply.
