Hello,

Sorry I couldn't find the thread for this...

Can anybody tell me what is the average cost of living in toronto for a couple for basic amenities i.e. accomodation (1 BR), food, utilities, telephone, transportation (public), provisions etc.

Well, at least you looked. I do agree they're tricky to find sometimes.

Anyways, here's one.

Well it depends where in Toronto you would like to get this 1 bed room apt. Since you need public transportation you can either choose to live in down town or in Scarborough as these places are well connected with Transit and are affordable also for new immigrants. You can either get a one bed room aprtmt in $650 - $800 (all inclusive) or rent a basement apartment from $550 to $750 (all inclusive), however, it could be a little more also depending on location. Food for 2 people for a month could be in $350-$400 (including Milk, grocery, fruits & vegitables). TV starting from $22 to $45 depending which channels you choose to watch and for telephone (land line) also in the same range ($22 to $45) with long distance charges extra. TTC presently charges $2.25 per ride, but you can either buy a 10 ticket ride for $19 or can go for a monthly unlimited ride pass for around $90 per month. Hence, if the couple does not go over board and stays in their means, they can expect to dish out any where between $1200 to $1500 per month.

You probably know more about this than me, but one-bdrm apartment for $800 (all inclusive) sounds a bit cheap, does it not? I used to live in a pretty crappy apartment in Scarborough (Eglinton and Kennedy) 3 years back and used to pay 825 (+25 bucks parking), I'm sure the rent is more now.

I think if you're looking for a resonably clean building in a better locality, you have to go for something $900+. Otherwise, go for a basement, a decent one would be about 750 (all inclusive), depending on size.

Hi,

We plan to move to Canada sometime next year. I want to rent a 2 bedroom house in a decent locality (Prefferabely in Mississauga) with a backyard as we have 2 dogs. If anyone can please give me an idea reagarding suitable localities, average rents etc., I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

A house in Mississauga with the details you mentioned may come in for around $ 1500-$1700 plus. A 2 bed room apartment in the same location can be rented around $1300-$1400 per month. Mostly people prefer to live near Square One in Mississauga.

Are there other Cities in GTA which may have similar houses for cheaper rents?

Thanks
