So essentially, your requirements are:
- Unlimited night and weekend minutes
- Enough peak minutes to cover job search/professional use
Given this, I think you are better off with a contract plan.
Pay-as-you-go type plans will charge you for all minutes, regardless of day and time, incoming or outgoing.
You can very quickly rack up over 500 mins. a month @ 35c. a min.
If you are dead against contracts, you may still be able to have a plan and not a contract by paying full price for the phone.
If you are ok with that, then go for such a plan and pay for the phone.
For example, Bell has a plan that gives free nights and weekends and between 150 to 350 peak minutes.
Check the latest pricing, but last I had checked, 150 mins. was for $25, 250 was for $35 and so on.
If you go for a basic phone and pay full price for it, you can have this plan without a contract.

It's better to negotiate with them over the phone first before you go to a store.
Call their new customers section, speak with an agent and negotiate your deal.
You can say that you are switching from another provider - that way, they may offer you a better deal than what's listed.
Then go to a retail store to pick up your phone and pay for the plan.

I just got a deal from Rogers on my renewal time.
250 min/daytime
6.00 p.m. onwards unlimited all days
call id
$27.45 +tax, it will cost me with tax $31.01/ month, but again i have to do contract with them for more two or three years. still i am thinking whether i go ahead or not??
May will help you little bit when you talk with phone provider.............
cheers..
You should go with ''Pay as you go", check Rogers prepaid plans, you have no need to sign contract, evening and weekend free. Its Unlimited evenings and weekends plan or you can check out other prepaid plan. May it helps to choose plan.
Hi RBO
Tnx
This is wat i am paying them right now in Montreal... same plan that u describe( contact already ended , they are pushing me to re sign but i m avoiding them).
i have rogers in my hand but i would like to explore other options....
cause i still hv to look for job and i hv to try to stay in budget unless if i dont find job soon... if i sign contract with them then i will be stuck paying them 35$ per month.
so for now i m looking for temp solutions for month or two ... once i hv settle down i can go with contract until then i m avoiding them.
