Gopalpai - you are doing great work, by helping people with information about job openings you come across. You have the right to free speech That said, when you keep repeating your opinion about how bad society here is, and how there are only "labor"jobs etc, you dilute the importance of the work you do here, on this forum.

We can't change the society (here or in India), but we can make a difference. , by helping out people. There is no shortage of people who will ridicule you, make fun of what you write, but ignore them - for that is what they are worth.

Hi Gopalpai..

I know u have had a totally bad experience landing in Canada.. but please dont blame others or the country for it.. and stop wishing ill will towards others.. this is not going to get u anywhere in life..

I think u have urself to blame because u came unprepared for the tough job market here in a time when the country entered deep recession.

We all know canada can be brutal..

The question i have for u is why are u still here.. u want to get citizenship and leave.. why not leave before that.. everybody has a ulterior motive to come here.. Getting a good job may be one of the many..

i can easily tell u 30-40% of immigrants come here only to get their citizenship for what ever reason like kids future, old age pension , free health care etc... so this thread is no way going to dissuade those people..

I am not trying to boast.. but trying to give balance to a very biased post..

Your failures are making u more and more negative.. be careful this can lead to self destruction.. I would suggest keeping goals and living life.. if citizenship is ur goal then so be it use it as a motivation factor.. few hardships should not dissuade u.. take it as a sacrifice for the better.. once u have met ur goals u are free to move and get back to ur life that was before u came to canada..

The dude...

This is my sincere advise to those who has already well settled jobs here and are very happy and boasting, wait till you lose your job and you don't get jobs for 2-3 months, see whether after staying in canada for 3-5 years if you have enough savings to survive jobless for 8-10 months like we did. So keep your big talks to yourself and let us concerntrate on reality. To new immigrants and not so well settled canadian/newly landed immigrants, the true fact is that, you cannot save much in canada so, people get tensed up if they are jobless even for 1 month unless they are enjoying EI. They will never have savings like we (gulf people do) because of high Tax. Everybody here have loans and mortgages.

True fact is you never have much savings in canada. People here are worried about paying their mortgages also. Is it not the truth? Let me put in some examples of people trying to earn here. Here young housewives earn by childcare (no Licence) $2/- per hour or $ 20 per day. Here old ladies/young ladies earn $50 per month per child by taking your children walking to school and bringing them back from school. If you wish your child to have ride in car/mini van to school and back then pay $80 - $90 per month. I have seen women over 60-70 doing this service of taking child to school walking and bring back in such cold. If we are expected to work like this at the age of 60+ I don't think I need to continue....

I agree with dudewheresmycar on many fronts. Unfortunately I also disagree with Gopalpai.

I can totally empathize with you - Gopalpai, for what you went through. Credentials from other countries (including India) are not recognized. There are artificial barriers created by bodies. In most professional areas such as Engineering, Medicine, Law, Physiotherapy etc, one's educational credentials are NOT recognized as equal to Canadian Degrees. Then there is the certification part - if you are an engineer, you need to become a P. Engr. (a professional engineer), which is a multi step process. You simply can not enroll to the bar & practise as a lawyer, even if you have a post graduate in law from India. Similarly you have to be certified to become a physiotherapist.

There are always two sides of the story - By the way, I AM NOT TAKING SIDES - just presenting them. The provincial government believes that certification is necessary in these areas so that they can be considered competent. Others believe that this is just a way to keep newcomers from entering the profession (rather they believe that these are barriers to keep immigrants out of these areas).

It is hard to say which one is right. If you asked someone who became a professional engineer - he would say that the certification part is right. For someone who struggled for years, or is not willing to go through the process, it would seem unjust, unreasonable, and smacking of discrimination.

I for one believe that WE made the choice of coming to Canada, Our decision was voluntary, and nothing was forced upon us. That said, DID WE DO AN INFORMED DECISION?

I mean, did we know that we needed to go through these struggles and trials before we could practise as a lawyer, an engineer, a doctor or a physiotherapist? Did we come here fully prepared with the truth that - this is life in Canada? If one did NOT, the fault lies with that person alone - not the country.

Besides, what is the use of ranting that this is a country for laborers, that this s a large \"LABOR ADDA\", that this country imports \"skilled, educated laborers\"?

What is the use of spreading conspiracy theories about what this country is all about? Will that change anything? No. Instead we end up being bitter, desperate, and lose our self esteem.

We know the truth. I am NOT defending what happens here - but the choice we have is to find a way to be successful (until we can change the system here) and to look at the good things that the country offers - clean air, an organized lifestyle, an absence of corruption, accountability, and so on.

There will be some who say that none of this matters, without a job. To them, I have nothing to say. To those who say - we will carry on our personal crusade to be successful, I say this - my good wishes and prayers for your success.

This false notion still exists in india or among indians.. pack ur bags and go anywhere outside india and you will be very successfull.. although this was true in upto the end of last century with jobs going back to the asia this is no longer true and people have a hard time understanding this..

I was in india last month and some of my friends in their early twenties were inquiring about student visa here as a means to getting a job and settling.. they just think life is easy and fun here..

I am willing to bet if Gopal pai and family had migrated may be in 2000 they would have been very successful here..

So a lot is about timing and we have the people in our very own country India and china to blame not canada.. Canada is just trying to fit into the world order because moving against it can be a costly mistake..

we are earning here 60,000 per month which is decent enough for us. Though i have strong interest in coming and settling in canada. Still there is an ioata of doubt as to whether that decision is right or no.

Moreover whether my qualification will hold good there or do i need to start from scratch. I have done my Masters in Pharmacy (Marketing) with 4 years of exp in Marketing & Sales. My wife is working in a travel firm.

Kindly guide me.

I request you all to guide this couple. This is one of many post reced in my in box. I don't know why you all are blaming us, we are on our right track, did our co-op,volutarily work, now we got job also. We are successful since we got in our own field.

Why everything come back to us persoanlly, whereas I just wanted new immigrant mentally and financially prepared. Is there something wrong in being well wisher and try to save them from stress and mental torture?

gopalpai, my sincere advice is your efforts are wasted on this forum. Why are you wasting your talent here instead you should concentrate your resources on other areas where your efforts and talent will be recognised. Let other new immigrant come like you and struggle. You can't protect the whole world.

This is my sincere advice, leave this forum. They can only hurt you and belittle your help.
