Website indicates that VFS do accept credit cards as long as u go visit them personally. By mail it is Money Order/Draft only.

Rules are still evolving - so if you are not in hurry, wait n watch! Not a bad approach.

Aashu, your calculations above are incorrect. You have to pay $240 each time only if you travel on Indian passport after you got Canadian citizenship and passport. http://www.cgitoronto.ca/Misc/surrcert.html
Did you contact VFS?

It is unclear to me if they levying (unfair) penalty for Indian passports expired between January 1, 2005 and end 2007 if it was not used to travel to India. Passport surrender rules came into effect around May - June 2010.

At the end of the day - we can't WIN against these Babus. Simply because playing field is not equal, playing rules are not defined. And that is what frustrates most of us. They themselves don't know the rules.

Basic courtesy is missing ... No call-back on leaving messages - no replies to emails.

O well, I am getting emotional now. :)

Not really,
If you read the passport rules of India, you should surrender your passport to the nearset mission, once you took Cdn. or other citizenship.
It is your (I mean the Indian) fault that you did not apply for OCI/PIO.
If you had ever renewed your passport in Canada (Indian passport) they put a stamp saying that you should surrender your passport once you get cdn. citizenship (post 2010) rules.
It is your fault, if you could not take leave (from an easy cdn. workplace life) and visit the embassy to surrender your passport and then we blame Indian babu's once fines are set in place for your failure to do stuff.
You will stay in Canada even when there is no good job for you or when you are discriminated in employment but find the first oppertunity to missile our babu's.
Please note that I am not supporting our babu's but just highlighting the double standard.
Peace

This time it is seriously funny that you say this ...

I did call them on acquiring my Canadian Citizenship and I was told that don't worry if passport is already expired - you won't be able to travel with it anyways (this made sense)

As I said in my previous post the problem is not rules ... it is the way it is enforced. Babus don't know all the rules. Period.
At the end of the day - we can't WIN against these Babus. Simply because playing field is not equal, playing rules are not defined. And that is what frustrates most of us. They themselves don't know the rules.
