$ 800 for what ? Were we ever told to do this earlier ? And we missed it ?
...howcome they did not ask for our passport to cancel when we went to get indian visa ?

We should all not pay this and protest....I read few other people saying same thing but how to do it...we should discuss and execute....

I am still in better position than some people I know in USA -
- don't know where the passport is
- even if have passport, can't read
- can read but picture is lost

I took Indian visa....they did NOT cancel my indian passport nor asked for it.

How did you travel to India without a visa on Canadian Passport. And if you have a visa, then Indian High Commission cancels your Indian Passport first before they give you a visa. It seems you travelled to India on Indian Passport and you already had Canadian citizenship. If you have done so then pay the penalty and do not crib as you have done wrong (illegal) at first step.

I had citizenship before 2005 and I travelled to India on a visa. My passport was cancelled at that time so I am happy as no more hassle.
