If they are saying then that must be correct.

For kids, we have to renew OCI with each new passport until the age of 20 at that time, OCI renewal takes about 2-3 months. I asked them how do we travel to India if there is an emergency during that time, I could not get a definite answer from them except them saying that it is a requirement as per Govt of India.

In case of emergency you will directly visit the consulate office. Emergency visa require proof of emergency, airline ticket etc. Emergency visa service is available 7 days a week and u don't have to go via VFS.

When you have OCI, you do not have to apply for any other visa. It is the time period during renewal, they have created a void. If you get an Emergency visa in spite of having OCI, will it not be like getting two valid visas to enter one country on your passport? Is it allowed?

After read all this B*****T from Indian Govt., i am afraid to apply for OCI now, b'cos in real emergency nobody will take care about you.

Indian govt. just give trouble to all NRI's for nothing. would be good for everyone if they issued OCI for life time sticker on booklet or OCI card in one time with little bit extra money compare to rob all of us every 5 years on renewal on PP.

They have to reissue OCI for persons below 20 years with each renewal of passport and then once at the age of 50.

http://www.cgitoronto.ca/OCI/ocimiscfeatures.html

I. In case of issuance of new foreign passport
OCI registration certificate and 'U' visa sticker carry the passport number of the registered OCI. Accordingly, each time a new passport is issued to an OCI holder; it has to be captured on the registration certificate and visa. This would require re-issuance of OCI registration certificate and visa each time a new foreign passport is issued in the following cases.

1. Up to the completion of 20 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued each time a new passport is issued to the holder.
2. Between 21-50 years of age, there is no need to seek re-issuance of OCI documents each time a new passport is issued. However, if the applicant desires, he/she may avail the service for re-issuance of OCI documents.
3. After the completion of 50 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued once after issuance of a new passport

OCI is far better than any other kind of visa. If you are at least 20 yrs then OCI visa will be valid for next 30 yrs (Up to the age of 50 yrs) and there is no need to get it renewed. I don't think there is any other country which gives you visa for 30 yrs without renewing/extending it.

Yes, but only before 20 years of age and 1 time after 50 years. Between 20-50 years, it is optional. If you do not transfer the U sticker, you need to carry the old passport with the U sticker on it every time you visit India.
