To obtain a surrender certificate(and not apply for a visa at the same time) do we submit the application to VFS or to the consulate directly?
Also, if we submit it to VFS, do we pay the VFS fee ($21 or whatever it is) + the surrender certificate fee ($168 or $20 depending on the situation) or do we only pay the surrender certificate fee?

Thanks

Only available at the consulate. VFS does not accept applications for SC.

Hi

How does one travel to India in cases of emergency?
For ex., my parents are aged, and if any health related issue comes up suddenly, I might have to take the next flight out.
-In case I get a call from India after regular office hours/middle of the night, do I go straight to the airlines counter at the airport for the next flight out, or do I have to go through an agent?
-Does the Immigration counter in India issue temp visit visa on arrival, if it’s related to an emergency in the family, or do I have to get a visa from Toronto before I can fly out? In that case, how long does it take?

Thanks

1. There is an emergency service available with CGI - Toronto but it is open only weekdays during office hours (not sure about weekends).

I don't think there is VISA on arrival counter in India - they will just send you back.

2. With the exact same reason in perspective, it is advicable to have a PIO or OCI or Multiyear, multiple entry visa stamped on your PP. For your own convenience, you have to plan for emergencies in advance.

Wish you never have to use the emergency services.

you can book flights thru any agent. I know Aircanada used to have compassionate ticketing for such emergencies. Other Airlines may also have it...not sure.
