To me personally, if a person is not there to identify the success with, is merely a text book story. It is like reading a management book or books like Interview skills for dummies, 100 best resumes, from shoestring to a millionaire, or some kind of fairy tale.

Besides, the purpose of this section is that such successful persons not only relate their stories but also contribute by helping other members by providing practical advice, be approachable and may be even meet one on one to help a person and consider it as their contribution to the society - a moral duty each human being is bound to. Like what GiG could do is show us his resume - it could help a person like me a lot who claims to have perhaps made the worst resumes in the world, that even with 4 dozen or more varieties, I am not able to get a single interview call. (and I too come from the premier accounting schools in India with an experience of working in the accounts/finance dept of a company voted as one of the 10 best financially managed companies in Indonesia for last so many years now!)

While I am not doubting his success - I know persons who came here and got great jobs within a week - without travelling in buses and trains, but in a hired car rather, his narration has to be more reader friendly. Only after 4 pages on this thread he has written 'a premier engineering institute' and 'a premier management school'. If he really wants to be of help and his post to be beneficial to the readers, he ought to be more open about things. When I as a once successful person having failed miserably in Canada am not shy of sharing my story and identity, why GiG, an instant success, wants to keep everything hidden - something he should be proud of, or if not that, atleast, not be ashamed of.

And if you carefully read his first post, no where does it mention what kind of job he was offered and was it within his profession (infact, it is not even mentioned whether he is a professional or a simple educated person). If that was to be considered success, I could claim myself to be successful too - because when I came here, I was able to meet face to face with some big names in recruiting agencies by just walking in and presenting myself in a very professional manner - and yes I got three offers in two days - paying a maximum of $15 an hour, and in field of accounting. And that was without having spent hours and hours on internet (simply because I could not use it for more than 1 hr in a day due to local IP problems), or without networking, or without spending much time in gathering more and more information about Canada, since I had made six international moves before that!! However, to me, it is not success. And if this is what this GiG has got, in my view it is nothing great.

Once again let me point - I am neither doubting his success, nor his credentials, and am definitely not pounding on his story as something not to be believed or heard by anyone. All I am trying to say is that he ought to give more details, somethings that readers can identify with, and most of all, be willing to help others in whatever manner he can, because afterall the purpose of this site is not leisure reading but to help desis.

One couldnt have put it better.

I think the answer to your concerns are in the following few sentences.

Well, does it matter to me? Of course not! If it is Text book or a fairy tale, so be it. Why should I be bothered about it? Not that I have spent my valuable time writing in a fairy tale to gain attention. Neither do I need any adulations from anyone.

Go figure. Why did he post it in the first place?

I wonder what wud have happened if sm1 had posted a failure story under a 'pseudo' id . ....................Wud the moderator have allowed that ???

As a moderator y is it that others' interest and opinion(right / wrong) is being sidelined and being over ruled ?? Y is the mod having interest on one side of the matter ?? I expect the mod 2 b unbiased .

Mr Incognito for 'ur truth' u have 2 make sacrifices.Either u shdnt have posted & if u have & wish 2 stand by ur word then b prepared 2 b scrutinised ........ let the truth be debated & then only v can judge who is the elephant and who is the dog !!!

PLEASE COME OUT WITH UR REAL IDENTITY OR TAKE UR POST / S BACK .Even if that means through PM s . Or else it will do more harm than good and ppl wud be permitted in making assumptions abt ur ID.

I guess these so success story people never worn the safety shoes and walk miles and miles to save 2 $ fare. They seems to be born with silver spoon in mouth or just good fiction writers.

keep a watch you will know everything, Many such fake success stories are rewritten hiding under the proxies.

L.A.N, its funny that you re-appear agian and complain about proxies....
its funny....because other id's have appeared from your ip as well.

Why is it that L.A.N appears only when a bashup of a success story is going on ?....i am sure the readers are smart enough to figure out.

Manasvi,
you have been a regular contributor here .....you will appreciate one big difference between GiG and others who use multiple fake ids.

GiG is not hiding the fact that he is using another id for personal privacy ,or whatever those reasons maybe, he came out openly, we did not have to check his ip to make that conclusion.

We are promoting objective discussions and no one is being sidelined. It has happenned way too many times in the past and it is happenning here again.....that as soon as some one posts some success, his post is blasted into smithreens.
Why deny them a fair chance to share their experience?

There are many immigrants struggling here , no one is denying that. But there are also many first generation immigrants who manage to do extremely well. Dont you think everyone can benefit from their side of story as well ? is it right to label it as boloney right from the get go.

There is a large group of south asians in middle and upper management in the corporate sector here .... many indians are doing extremenly well in businesses too, but they are not heard on this forum.... just yesterday i was reading about Conros corp of Ontario, headed by an indian , it has become one of the biggest competitors to 3M corp in log wood....these are facts too and not just boloney.

to draw an analogy say , if you want to survey about life in Bombay...you conduct the survey in dharavi and other strugling areas only and reach a conclusion that it is a horrible place to be ....would the conclusion be accurate?

Think about it .

Worth Thinking MI ,

Thanks .

However my only plea was that as moderator one shd restrain 4m taking sides . I know its hard as v r all human & have r preferences .But as a mod u r placed at a higher altar and hence the need for being un biased .

Of course there are success stories and they r welcome . But when need 2 b scrutinised they shd provide sufficient proof . U know what MI I dunno the english equivalent (1c bitten 2wice shy wudnt sound well ) but in Hindi there s an adage ' doodh ka jalaa chaach bhee fook fook ke peetaa hai '
:p
