Why couldnt such a successful person (presumably intelligent too) follow simple directions laid out by GG to post success stories?

FYI

There were no 'directions' or 'instructions' provided by Garvo. All he said was that there were some 'common questions' that could be addressed during the course of the posting of the success story.

Eveybody else has posted their story properly and answered any further questions. except ...

Merc., his identity is not a question on the story.

What questions relevant to the story has he not answered? Please send them to me and I'll ask him those.

If you noticed, he has already answered a couple of quetsions posed to him even on this thread by YoursTruly and Jago-desi.

Anyways, in my effort to draw something constructive form this thread, let me just say that my original problem here was not with the suggestions. I would like to keep this site as democratic as possible and people’s input really does count. My only issue from the beginning was that these suggestions should come in a manner that is not offensive to the original poster and I didn’t see that for the first few threads.

Anyways, going through most (if not all) of the stuff in this thread above, here is the policy we will follow for the Success Stories section going forward.

1) We will require users to use their original IDs for posting stories henceforth. For GIG’s story, you’ll just have to take my word for it that it is authentic. After 2 years on this site and over a 1000 posts, its your call whether to believe me or not. Either is fine. I am the one who asked him to post his story and his reasons to remain anonymous sounded perfectly valid to me.

But I do understand member concerns in this regard too and to address those, we will require all stories to be posted by the original users. If someone does wish to post their story while remaining anonymous, that story will be posted outside of the success stories section.

2) The stories in this section will be first person accounts only. That does not mean you cannot post links to stories from the media on the site, it just means we will not allow them in this section.

3) No one will start or continue ANY threads neither demeaning nor commending anything in the Success Stories Section (SSS). These threads will be immediately deleted. Any input to stories in this section will only go via moderators. The reason for this is

a)We want to prevent the usual degeneration of threads that occurs to the extent that they lose their point.

b)We want to encourage people to come on the forum and write stuff without the fear of being attacked for their views. And everybody has a different manner of writing. We have put up suggestions on what points they should include in the first post on the section, however it would be pretty boring to read all stories in the same format. If someone misses anything you can always ask them the questions via moderators.

----------------------------------------------------------

The point of the Success stories section is NOT to create a false image of a land of gold here in Canada. I will be the first to caution people that Canada is no land of instant milk and honey and the decision to immigrate must be very well thought of and weighed. And even after doing this, you may still have to struggle.

The point of the section is that there are many who have seen light at the end of the tunnel. Not all stories here will be of instant success, there will be many where people have gone through some very tough times to emerge winners. There already are a few. But you will certainly have a few where people have found jobs in their fields in the first couple of months of landing without much of a hassle. I did. Nothing wrong with that!! Why should I feel guilty about it? Maybe I just got lucky, but that’s for readers of the story to judge.

The whole idea for this section came about from the overwhelming input that the site was just portraying a lot of negativity and depression. Its plain to see that if that was the state of mind that people landed here with, most would not even make a sincere effort to go forward with a regular job search, rather just start looking for the first job available, whatever it may be. And that way, we’re actually doing a disservice to the people we’re trying to assist.

The stories in the section do not have to be full of inspiring tips. Just the fact that they exist should be inspiring enough. If others have done it, so can you. You may however have some bumps along the way.

And last but not least, we will soon have another section on the site as well. It will not be called a “failures section”, it’ll be a “Stories of Struggle” section. Again, these will be first person accounts of people detailing their hardships in Canada so as to forewarn others. The idea will not be Canada-bashing, it will be a realistic portrayal of Canada.

Anyways, that’s it for me, I’m done with this thread. Hope this brings some resolution.

Man, what is your problem with Merc/Kap/dio......you have repeated it many times now.

Now it seems Kap is ok, because he agreed with you on some things.
First I am no angel and now you are \\\"even Mercury has done that\\\".
Please stop with the patronizing.

Does it really hurt the website so much when we question things?
I am getting the impression that you guys want it to go in a certain direction.

Man, get a buddha bar or something!
Kap...OK/Not OK... where are you getting this from?. I'm trying to keep this civil but am getting only provocative responses from DTC and now you!

Like I repeatedly said...I am not against questioning...only the way you do it!. Chandresh, my2cents and yourstruly have disagreed in a manner that is conducive to constructive debate. DTC,you and KAP have done otherwise...and you keep doing the rounds with your oneliners meant to provoke(a more recent example is the one that you meade on that thread about the boy from Bihar). When they do get a response from someonelike Crenshaw...you whine! Now it seems even a civilized put down is too pointed for you. Come on! If your posts are made from a negative space...where do you expect the responses to be from? Dont you think you are being touchy feely when it suits you?

BTW: which direction would you like the site to go? You guys seem very good at creating or being part of the problem. How about some solutions now?

Agreed, all this has been said before in human history. But usually when I pick holes into something the way you have, I come up with a constructive alternative.

There is no rule that binds a critic to suggest alternatives. While it may be true that YOU come up with alternatives when picking holes, but in general "picking holes" does not necessarilt imply that alternatives be presented. You cannot make your own rules and force others to follow.

So since all these suggestions have been used to death, can you give us a few that have NOT been?

See above!

Just trying to make this thread constructive so that someone (including myself) may derive from your wisdom.

You digress! My take on the op was not so much on the "quality" of the suggestions as it had to with the fact that it was a yarn. More than comments on the suggestions themselves, the purpose of my posts was to dispute the substance of GiG's post that implied achieving spectacular success by use of his 15 "constructive" suggestions!

Hi Jack3d,

Which direction....site to go? Why are you asking this question frequently only Me/Mec6/dio?

Fake man has still not disclosed from where he did MBA or what type of engineer he is. and you people are not bothered about it. Why? Please reply this first instead of arguing what you like.

If I say I got 1 million as a salary then what the reaction of my statement?

Asking questions or clarification is not seemed at creating or being part of the problem. What type of solutions are you talking about?
