The main reason given was that after posting their detailed experiences (which in some cases were stories of struggle), they started getting calls from relatives in India, a testament to how popular this site is getting. Having to explain their experiences/struggles to their extended families became an embarassment.

I am not quite sure I understand. How did the relatives get to know who the poster was?? Did the poster reveal his true identity to his relatives? Why would anyone do that if he does not want them to call him??

It is in this instance since the poster spoke to over the phone and I have met him at CanadianDesi meetings.

I believe that. He might very well be a successful person at this time. My question was regarding the events in the first three weeks of GiGs landing here. Did you know him then?? Did you witness all that??

and one must not forget that GiG claims to be a passout from top tech and management univs ....

Where the heck did you get that from?? Now, don't tell me you know GiG too!?

I would just like to add to this thread in order to clarify what I really want to say.
I will refer to MishtarIndia for this. Without providing actual links of those posts of his, I want to give him credit for some of his "useful" suggestions that were more than just pep-talk. I remember his posts suggesting that people learn skills in construction that could help them get a better job because he felt that the construction sector is booming and there are a lot of vacancies and good pay. Regardless of how far such a suggestion is applicable to specific individuals, that is what I will call a useful and concrete suggestion!
What piques me is soapbox oration!!:D

Sorry about that!! I didn't know he had updated his post!! My apologies!! But, as Chandresh said, what top notch institutes in Engineering and Management?? ITK and IIMA??? Why does one have to come here after that??:D

Dio,Merc, Kap ,

If i may just add an observation here...It took 4 pages and probably hours of constant counter responses from BL and Jake to make you change your tone from ......

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MI,

That may be the whole point though. For whatever reasons (mostly ego), some people cry ATTAAACK at the very mention of success here on the forum . This story was just posted yesterday and look at the number of people ready to jump on it.

\---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you know who is our GURU for ATTAAACK....?

I think you know very well.

I fail to understand why you “positive” guys always tend to gang up and try to classify a cross-examination or debate as “ATTAAACK”? Someone presents a “success” story that seems like a chapter out of “Get What You Really Want in Just 12 Minutes a Day”, that sounds more like a fairy tale, and when that is pointed out, it is called “AATTAAACK”! Why?

Yes, but know why? Because it reeks of incredulity. Because over the years, people have tried and tested the soup of those of oft-repeated ingredients of “Sell yourself”, “Know your USP”, “Make job specific resumes”, “Dress appropriately”, “Cold call” etc. etc. but the elixir does not seem to work as miraculously as is made out.

Whatever the intentions, the idea here is to relentlessly trample upon everything that sounds like success.

No. The idea is to filter facts from rant!

let us post stories after stories of failure, because "that is ground reality here". But post a success story? Take him out. That way we will paint a very balanced picture for prospective immigrants indeed.

Why create a separate section for success stories? Why encourage some to post “happy” stuff or dissuade others from doing otherwise? In fact why this interference in the normal course of posting at all? It is only a hands-off approach and letting all comments/posts come as they will, that will ensure a “true” and “real” picture to naturally emerge. Anytthing else will make the picture artificial and not truly representative of the reality.

Sorry, I can't seem to be able to get this fairy tale out of my head! I am mesmerized!! Hypnotized!!:D
Just some more questions:

1. GiG mentions that when he and his family landed they shared an "apartment with 3 families."
Just asking! I don't know. Does this really happen? I mean THREE FAMILIES in a 2 BR apartment?? Anyone else did the same??

2. GiG says -" They have MBO’s in Management and I gave myself a month".
What is MBO?? :D Or is it a new degree??
He "gave" himself a month for what?? To get a job? And what does that mean actually? Like what did he tell himself - "I will get a job within a month else I will.....?
