Dear All,

Use of two wheeler vehicles is a great boon in INDIA. Bikes and scooters are everywhere. I was in Mumbai last week and found that use of two wheeler does make a big difference in long distance commuting.

Is it possible in CANADA? Let's keep off the 4/5 months of winter. But in the remaining months, does any one see Two-wheelers on road? Is it possible to have a BIKE to commute for various personal and professional objectives?

Please reply.

Regards,

VJ.

You can get a bike (motorcycle) and use it for whatever you want.
Sure, you can use it for commuting as well, but I don't think it will make a lot of difference in your commuting time because bikers also have to follow the same traffic laws :o

You will need a motorcycle license, I imagine, and of course insurance.

In the vacation destinations in the US, I used to see those scooty type two-wheelers, but haven't seen them here in Canada.
They are of course no good for commuting because they can't go beyond a certain speed.

VJ,

The two-wheeler market here is restricted to motorcycle enthusiasts in the summer. Not for commuting, the purposes are mostly recreational.

I've seen some small TVS Scooty like mopeds in downtown in summer, however they're around for a very short time and again not to be used for commuting long distances. I don't think you need a license for these however they're not very safe, a fast moving car can knock you over and cause serious injury.

The reason the use of two-wheelers is very limited here is its neither practical nor safe. The transportation-infrastructure is designed to handle cars, which suits the extreme weather.

Are you there?

Dear Pratickm & BL,

Thanks a lot for your inputs. I think considering the infrastructure & transportaion facilities available, use of two-wheeler is not popular or advisable.

VJ.

You get vespa scooters here. The hand gear kind and can be used during summer. I have seen couple of guys in downtown using it and they carry license plate on them.
It is not easy for Car to knock you down and get away. More than scooter riders you find lot of bicycle rider in downtown roads. Man you are safe to enjoy two wheeler ride.........
