I personally feel life in Canada is very stressful, there are no good jobs and most immigrants are forced to take survival jobs and they are stuck there for years, for most of the people it's struggle just to pay their bills and it's worst if you don't have any family or social support. I have met many many many immigrants with same stories. people who are simple , honest and hardworking suffer the most, people who are shameless, dishonest and corrupt find their way to success, this is fact in Canada.
Lots of people i met say that we came to Canada for kids education but are surprised to find that education here is worse than back home, of course there are big buildings and green campuses and lots of fashion but NO real education.
economy is not generating jobs and technology is outsourcing most of the jobs, min wage is so low that working 40 hrs a week you cannot afford to pay for rent, food and basic expenses, forget all other expenses and Savings !, govt gives wrong info, says economy added say 15000 news jobs , only to realise that most employers hire 2 part timers than 1 full timer, and someone on contract rather than giving a permanent job , it's same exploitation theory , use the horse when young and kill the horse when it becomes older,
old age benefits start at 67 and govt makes sure that with all the stress people with die before collecting it. Corruption is very very organized in Canada, Car insurance for example !, well i agree that roads are nicer and cleaner, because it's a new country which was not ruled and looted by any foreign power, weather is the worst in the world , statistics say almost 50% of new immigrants leave Canada after frustration and loosing all their money they brought.
there is lots of hidden discrimination, if you have immigrant names, and applying for management job into non technical function, you will not be hired , your resume will be rejected on face value.
Then biggest joke is Canadian experience , i met a person who worked for a Big pharma MNC in usa and move to canada, applied in same company in Canada (even at much lower position) but was denied saying no Canadian experience, i have seen desperate people in 40's taking OSAP loans and going to schools with expectation to get some decent job so that they can quit their heavy back breaking minimum wage jobs
Truely said . Although I have good job to meet my ends but I am not happy here . Really it is stressful life . Sometime I am thinking .. WHY I CAME HERE ??
Quite humbly, you are not right.
I am not guessing but one of the worst thing that happens with new immigrants is the environment (people) they end up with who feed extreme negativity, I went through that too.
If there is something that you look at, find out the people who have been doing well (financial perspective), it would help you sketch some good ideas.
Those who were positive, were able to settle very well despite several shortcomings. Naysayers failed despite having best opportunities around them.

JRF is right.
I feel sorry for the people who are suffering to settle in Canada and I do try to help them within my limitations.
But, too much negativity worsens one's life and will not help anyway for the progress.
It is not easy to settle in a new country for any one.
With today's communication technology, people can easily know what is reality in any part of the world and can easily assess where they stand and potential risks. If some one is coming to Canada without proper information, it is totally their fault. Blaming some one / situation is a real stupidity.
As I said above, before moving to Canada they have to consider all the factors and have a plan for different scenarios. They should move only once they are fully satisfied that they have all the necessary tools to make it in Canada and have all the plans at its place. That includes new beginning or different line of activity if their current profile doesn't go well in a new country.
If they are not sure about it, they should never move from their place to a new country particularly if they are in their 40's.
Looks like we need to set up few voluntary desi counselling centers in different parts of GTA to help the new immigrants to get some positive thoughts and advise. ( Not for resume preparation or opening a bank account).
Gurram ..You nailed it . Exactly my thoughts .
Your suggestion of starting a centre looks more promising than some online petition which I personally blv is more of self promotion .
I see CD itself as a very good platform to start with .
