By the fruit, I meant the offspring (immigrants who actually make it to Canada) of these old age parents (who are left behind alone in their original countries).

Sorry, Still dont understand. YOu mentioned 8-10$ Jobs, so I though it was about them working.

No, its not about the old parents working at 8-10$ jobs. I dont think we would sponsor our 50+ desi parents to come and work here.

The 8-10$ jobs are for the fresh "Highly educated and professional" immigrants who do not have "Canadian experience".

What I actually meant here is the same thing as you had said in your earlier post. The Canadian Govt somehow doesnt want to take the burden of aging parents. A five to ten year delay in processing time is perhaps good enough to filter out some of the parents as some of them dont have enough time left in this world.

Several factors, both push and pull and these are all my personal opinions, no disrespect intended:

Push:
Something is going on in the US that i dont like. Religeous fundamentalism and intolerance are at a rise. Not safe for culture, faith and values. Moreover, there are more indians in Canada as a proportion of the population and I am sure they have more impact on the culture and agenda there.
Healthcare is a scam and expenses will continue to grow despite insurance. The famed 'better-health-facilities' in US talk is ont true. I have seen more morons in clinics here than at the mental asylum in Agra, and here, they were not all patients. I have to take an appointment with a specialist at least 3 months in advance, 8 months for a super-specialist for my daughter. Dont know how it is in canada, but i know its free and you get treated even if you have no money. They talk about high taxes in canada and then deduct about 15% of my pay for insurance.

Pull:
Most important, it is easier to bring family into canda than it is in US. I am an only child and my parents are old. IF i try to do this in US, it would take 10+ years and then they will not be covered for insurance or anything. I cant leave them in India. If i go back to india, my kids may get a raw deal. Middle path is canada.
I dont see much difference in the quality of life between US and canada. A few bucks here and there doesnt matter if you can maintain the same quality of life.

Bottom line: I dont like USA and its politico-economic system. Canada is not bad.

Still dont know what places i should target.

I will try to give you a balanced view - but like any other view, it is based on my experiences and knowledge and you or someone else might find it does not match with his/her views.

Having spent more than 4 years in Canada, and having lots of relations in US, I can say that most of the times there is no difference between the two countries as regards to safety of culture, faith and values. Both these countries have a lifestyle where self interest is above all (and perhaps that is why they have progressed so much), which is not easy for an Indian to digest. For immigrants to US, unlike migrating to South-east Asia, most of the Indians are in a hurry to westernise themselves - talking in their accent (as it is called in India), to dressing, to using paper crockery, to doing the dishes etc. etc. Some of those changes are good, but not all, in my opinion. Initially they are in a hurry to let their children adapt to talking in English everywhere, including home and a few years later repent that their children are not able to communicate with them in their mother tongue. However in Canada, it is two level change - first they Canadianise themselves, and sooner or later realise/feel that USA is the big brother and a better place, so work a little harder to Americanise themselves. It is very difficult to explain in written words, but in short, while Indians who go to live in South east Asia try hard and are able to, to a large extent, keep their Indian value system, dressing, languages, social behaviour, family unity etc., while those who come to North America hurriedly westernise themselves. In such a case, it becomes very difficult for those (like me) wanting to adapt to the novelties of the west and combining it with good of the east, and that at times is frustrating. However, whether it be in US or in Canada, it does not make much difference.

Healthcare - the less said the better! One thing I dread while living in Canada, is getting sick. It is commonly said in Canada that the healthcare system will NOT let you die - but will let you suffer till your tolerance power before attending to you. It is true that those who can afford it prefer to go to USA than to wait here in Canada. And by the way, in normal circumstances, only consultation is free - NOT the drugs or treatment. And not every person is able to get his own family doctor for that matter.

Money - no doubt about it - it is much much less compared to what one can expect in USA.

Occupation - USA being a LARGE country, much much larger than Canada, offers more employment and business oppotunities than Canada. Even if you want to do business, simple fact being that the quantity of consumers is much less, the overheads per piece become very high because you can't buy and sell in big quantities (unless you are exporting to USA!!!)

Family sponsorship? As others have written, the time period is increasing day by day because more and more immigrants want to bring their loved ones to Canada. Most of these old age parents are more of a burden to the Canadian economy than assets in forms of providing a happy life to younger immigrants. Infact in yesterday's budget presentation, they have commented in a suttle manner that educated immigrants are becoming a problem to Canadian systems since most are either not , or under utilised for their skills and the society as a whole is getting more and more frustrated. New immigrants are not getting what they deserve - and those who DO get underemployed, they are 'snatching' the jobs of locals - and hense both are getting more frustrated.

I know you will say that the grass is greener on the other side - given a choice, I would rather live in USA and be under utilised, than live in Canada not being utilised! And by the way, the grass is green in most of USA, while it is white surface in Canada half of the year!

Take your pick!

Good counselling by Chandreshji and the last paragraph is real (and funny too).

Just becuase the guy worked in US does not automatically get him a job in Canada. There are number of Canadians (locals) who are still looking for a decent hi tech job. Seen too much of it in Ottawa which is supposed to be the silicaon valley of Canada (not any more I think).

On a lighter note, I am going to interview two desis (out of four candidates) this afternoon for a GIS and a web programmer positions. Let's see how they fare. For me, exp counts only 25%, rest soft skills, behavior, how they talk, etc.

(oops, forgot that chhole in the microwave)

Hi suttu

I'm an IT pro with 6 yrs exp back home and 1 yr here in canada.
Well personally I don't really think that in the IT field you need so called "Canadian Exp" well as for my case I got the job without any Canadaian Exp.
It depends upon your luck too and some other factors like which company etc,etc

Well I have 5 friends who are in US in IT. Its good that you have gor your GC so why do you want to really move here. As far as OHIP healtf ins is concerned consider it only if you really think you are going to use that coverage extensively.

I don't know really what to say but I know one thing that you are not gonna make the kind of maoney you made in US here in Canada.

As far as security or crime goes it's everywhere. And for Indian community well I think it does not make a difference if you are in Can or US ppl don't have the time you know. But yes I personnally feel that people here are nicer as they don't compare each other on the basis of money .

But I would suggest that you come here first and try finding a good job only then decide to move all your family.

As for parents it's taking 5 yrs or more from India for sponsoring your parents.

In your case you would be able to sponsors them only afer filing taxes in canada so it will after 1 yr.

I won't mind sharing othet taughts with you. Tell me where are you located in Us and do you have a famliy..kids.. is your wife workign ???

I hope this info helped you.

Any other help from myside is welcomed.

Jas

Can you provide some link or the actual words used?

This would imply we are taking away Blue collar (and other lower collar color) Jobs????
