I had that for 6 months as well.
But the insurance company will demand you to switch soon.
You cannot have Canadian plate and US license.
Once you convert to Canadian license and Canadian plate, you'd have to convert to Canadian insurance soon as well.
Since this person is planning to be here for several years and get PR as well, this will have to be done anyway.
What's the point in delaying the inevitable.

However that's not usually the problem, State law requires residents to get the car registered there relatively quickly, usually a month or two. You can't get a State title unless you own it, and you can't register it without a title.
