The term IT is used so loosely that i don't understand it since i am not from IT field. The hourly rate varies from 10 $ er hour to 100 $ per hour and that is what confuses me. anyone i meet from IT sector just says i work in IT. But you don't get a good picture of what he does exactly.

Sorry fellas,
I was out for quite sometime. The thread is really going strong with lots of good inputs.
I am taking courses on .net and am preparing for my mcsd.net exams. I will be taking the tests in about 3-4 months time. Reading this thread and some more encouraing ones (unfortunatily there are not very many) keeps my will power strong to complete the courses.
Just taking baby steps at this time..towards a bigger goal.
I agree that completing MCSD by working on the test papers dosent help. That is precisely why I am taking a very rigorous course with a live project, and then I will take the exam.
We dont want to leave things for chance and regret later when we have time on hand to improve on our skill set.
And boy !!! Did I tell you .NET is sooo Cool , the coolest thing is C# which is so similar to java, it needs very li'l time to prepare for C# exam. I am all excited.
Cheers...

What test preparation materials are you using? Are you using any specific book/author?

If you need any help preparing for MCSD.NET, Feel free to ask me any question. I can help you on Web Application Development (Exam # 70-315) and Windows Application Development (Exam # 70-316).

I would like to help fellow CanDesi members who are preparing for .NET certification. Feel free to ask. Send me an Email with your questions/comments.

Thats such a good initiative Priyank .

1. The MCSD Track is on C# / VB.net tracks .Which is more suited for a Java developer & the Canadian market ?
2.Besides the MOC which other book/ author is recommnded for preparation ?
3. Can u recommend some forum for preparation of .NET like JavaRanch for Java ??

C# or VB.NET - Old war going on in .NET Community since its beta releases. Most of you know this already. C# or VB.NET is just a means to access the powerful framework. You write code in any language supported by .NET (around 28 languages), Framework compiles that code into MSIL. It doesn’t matter what language it is written in and will execute exactly same.

It is merely a personal choice. For Java Developer, C# would be much better fit as most of the features of C# are Java like. Most employer prefer C# because Microsoft has pressed that C# is a language for C++ programmers. By saying this, I don’t want to discourage any VB.NET programmers. As I said it is merely a personal choice.

If you are java or C++ programmer, you would find C# a lost cousin and will catch on pretty quickly.

If you are VB 6 Programmer, VB.NET is a way to GO.

For any certification preparation, you should read as much material as possible. Certification will give you recognition but comprehensive knowledge of the subject is necessary when need be.

I have used books from author Amit Kalani for Web Applications, Windows Applications and Web Services. Links are as follows.

Web Application 70-315
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789728222/103-9507409-2007827?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance

Windows Application 70-316
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789728230/103-9507409-2007827?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance

Web Services 70-320
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789728249/103-9507409-2007827?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance

All these books are for C# track.

I have used some other books as additional references. I will update this list soon with more books information and web sites information you can use.

As per, good discussion board, I could not locate single one. If more people want to participate, I can put together a small discussion board and we can share some knowledge there. What do you think?
