To clarify :
In factories, manufacturing areas they do pay overtime. Even non - unionised manufacturing units pay good overtime.
But in consultant office (all across the world), they exploit you saying that they donot have deep pockets.
I had been to an architects office interview 2 days back. They said :
Annual salary, no overtime- but we will give you extra hours worked as time off which is total BS. This is also the same case in my office. Why i am saying that is even today , i can take a month off and come back and join after a month. There will be no pay for the month off that i took. Who Who will pay for all the hard work that i did? They did not give me a vacation for 3 years. Every year they approved my vacation and a day before that vacation day, they would cancel it citing some urgent work.
Anyways, I also do feel that some course would benefit immigrant's employability factors.

Employers exploit you because you let them exploit you. It is same like bullying - people bully you because you let them overtake you. It all depends upon your self assertiveness.

Working extra hours is SAID to be good that you get to learn more, but that should not give an employer an idea, that he/she is ready to slog. I bet, the "Gora" guy in your office would stand up from chair right on the stroke of 5, in addition to those n smoking & talking breaks he/she takes.

I have worked in consultancies, both in India and Canada, but I make clear that I have a life after 5 PM. And the trend of spending sufficient time for family and relaxation is growing in Canada.

If you are working extra hours, show that in your timesheet. I do not think that any employer can deny you your vacation hours. It is your right

In reply to original posting, I believe OACCETT designation might be an advantage, because first you are at par with Canadian educated worker, second you can negotiate the salary to be at par with Canadian worker.

It is my observation that people who are not able to get job in respective fields within six months of landing are the people prone to salary exploitation. They are made to believe that their qualification and skills are fit for entry level positions only. Therefore those who are stuck in casual type of jobs should try to get Canadian certification to atleast begin working in their area of expertise. Salary is a secondry matter that can be taken care off after having a Canadian Company on resume. For me it worked with help from WAFY.......further it is my belief...ies raat ki subha bhi hai "this night will also show me daylight someday"

digging up this thread again, have anyone actually done oacett among us desis? i went through their web site and was led to their associated website cten.ca , and they tell u that they help u find jobs in diffrent companies, i do not know how this works , or is the certification any good or not.

just to let all u guys a little info on me. i am a diploma mech engg from india migrated about a year and a half back, knew about oacett and cten through cd but although temped to get oacett never actually got the same, as i never saw a vacancy stating that oacett certified professionals needed for a certain position.

so i ask this question again.

is there any C. Tech among us desis?

Note--C. tech is certified technician one of the designations given by oacett,

If there is anyone , can he / she pls let us know about the process and the advantages of getting the same , and most important of all is there any vacancies which requirs mandatory oacett certification?

any replies will be appriciated,

thanks all

kris
