Hello All,
My parents were issued a vistor multiple entry visa to canada from India for only one year exp.Jul07/2006.
My parents came here in last summer and went back after 3.5 months stay before winter start.
The visa will expire on Jul07/2006.
1.-can this visa extended for 5-10years.?
2.- If they come again in June and ask to extend visa , is it possible?

Please advies,
Thank you very much .
Best Regards,
Jr. Desi

>>>>>>>>> The duration of the visa is not in your hands. It's upto the discretion of the issuing officer at the issuing post.

>>>>>>>> Yes, they can apply for visa extension. The website http://www.cic.gc.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK has details on how to do it. I believe the application has to be made about 3 to 4 weeks in advance, if I am not mistaken.

Isnt it that on a multiple entry visa, if you make a re-entry then it again become valid for another period of duration it was issued for?
so if originally it was issued for one yr multiple entries n they made a re-entry just before its expiry then visa is again valid for one more year n they dont have to apply for extension

Nope, visas don't automatically renew. A 1 yr visa (single or multiple entry) is valid for that one year.

Irrespective of the duration of the visa validity, you will be allowed to legally stay for upto 6 months. However, when you leave and re-enter, you may become eligible for another fresh duration of upto 6 months.

So, if your visa expires July 1 and you re-enter June 30, you may be able to stay for another 6 months even though the visa will expire the next day. All these are at the discretion of the border officer.

Also, after staying for 6 months, you can apply for an extension of stay.

Also, I think I stated wrong in my earlier posting. I believe you have to re-apply for a new visa (cannot "extend" an expiring visa) while you can apply for extension of stay beyond 6 months.

Hope this helps.

Dimple,

You are correct. You can enter up to the last date of visa, and can staty up to 6 months from the date of entry (Generally) This duration of stay is decided by the officer on obrder at the time of entry.

Before completion of these six months, you have to apply for the extnesion of visa at least one month in advance.
