Hello Guys!
Another set of queries on my mind and i feel the advice i get here is genuine.
Now as we are in preparation to move from Dubai, there are loads to do in terms of packing and moving.
1) Is it really advisable to get your new LCD TV home theater & PC etc to Canada?
2) As we prepare to landing in May, it is spring time and what type of clothes best suited during that time (any warm clothes?)
3) Is it advisable to buy few winter jackets from here (Dubai)
4) Should we get along few basic utensils ( non stick types)
5) Should we get some ready to eat food from here like tin fish , baked beans etc to sustain for few days?
6) Which is a good GSM mobile telecommunication provider? Is it expensive to use mobile hi speed internet USB plug with Rogers CAD 30/mth or CAD 200 3 year plan no term!!
7) Will the mobile phone (instrument only) what we use here in Dubai work in Canada?
8) And finally how good is Scotiabank to open an account with?
I guess we will be digressing from the thread's objective by discussing these things here ....
There are more relevant threads which have discussed such topics and would be perhaps better to put the query there .... Please browse for 'furniture ' , 'electronics' in the ' Coming to Canada ' part of the forum ... Thx .

Fido.
As you are the OP, you have the access permissions to update your initial post. You may want to consider adding a section in the first page beneath your initial post such as
Options discussed:
---------------------
1. XXXX. Good and not so good things about.
2. YYYY. Good and not so good things about.
Also, you could clear the entries of ubpayingguest and unclepritham as the links seem to be not working, didn't check other links though.
This would enable the future immigrants (and our friends) to get most of the information in page1 itself while they could read the rest of the responses leisurely.
This would also help people to find a good environment to squeeze in if they are in transition.
Thanks,
JRF.

1) Is it really advisable to get your new LCD TV home theater & PC etc to Canada?
->Yes its better than buying new as taxes are high here, and the only thing you may need (1%) is the small converter at the end of cable wire (EU to US)
2) As we prepare to landing in May, it is spring time and what type of clothes best suited during that time (any warm clothes?)
->In Canada warm clothes are always needed, you may be landing in spring but the warm clothes will be good for December.
3) Is it advisable to buy few winter jackets from here (Dubai)
->Buy if its cheap........ anywhere
4) Should we get along few basic utensils ( non stick types)
-> Yes please
5) Should we get some ready to eat food from here like tin fish , baked beans etc to sustain for few days?
-> You get good baked beans and fish here, will advise carry some supplies of what you like.
6) Which is a good GSM mobile telecommunication provider? Is it expensive to use mobile hi speed internet USB plug with Rogers CAD 30/mth or CAD 200 3 year plan no term!!
->There is no good GSM provider here (if you not working for them) there are only exorbitant GSM providers here( worlds most expensive). people use cable internet in home/office, will not advise you to buy data stick, at least not in your initial months.
7) Will the mobile phone (instrument only) what we use here in Dubai work in Canada?
-> Yes please bring your GSM mobile instruments along as GSM technology is the same world over and also phones are expensive.
8) And finally how good is Scotiabank to open an account with?
-> OK
My response would also be more or less in line with the previous post by Ritz.
1. I presume you have them already with you. Check whether they will work in 100-120V or not. If they are quite bulky, you may consider disposing them there itself. You may have to consider cargo charges if you are sending them by cargo. I would say it is better to bring PC in any case.
2. The warm clothes you might be using in Dubai itself would be sufficient.
3. In my opinion and experience, it is better to buy winter clothes (especially jackets and the like) here in Canada. You can bring thermal wear from there.
4. Yes. Bring along or cargo utensils and kitchen equipment like mixer, grinder etc. (120V). I think you can get it cheaper there.
5. It is advisable but I am not sure of customs restrictions, if any.
6. It is better to do some research (after coming) and go for the one which you feel suits you. Internet and phone services are quite costly here.
7. Not sure. You can bring what you have with you already. If you are thinking of buying new, I do not think it may be a good idea.
8. I think Scotia Bank is in the top five banks list and should be ok.
You can post these type of queries under 'Moving Soon' or any other section as appropriate (to your query).
Just my two cents
Cheers
