Hi all,
I am a Landed Permanent resident of Canada holding Permanent Resident & SIN cards.
I am being offered a job in Dubai by a company incorporated under Canadian laws, which has ongoing operations in Canada. They want me to represent their Canadian interests in Dubai.
As per the Permanent Residence Obligations, I am allowed to live outside Canada if I am employed on a full time basis by such a Canadian Company.
My query is:
- In such case, is there a prescribed process to follow? I.e. Is this to be reported to the Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) and applications made?
- Should my salary still be transferred to a Canadian Account?
- What kind of documentary proof should I have (when I return to Canada) to show that I was complying with the Permanent Residence Obligations?
Please give you inputs!
Brgds,
Sunil..

Hi loveland,
If you have a Human Resources Department and an Accounting Department, please sit down and talk with them and find out how they can help you with the situation now you are in, and discuss with them as to what are the implications associated with the transfer. They might have a form that is associated with the transfer, internally, there in the organisation, which will clearly tell you what it is that you can claim towards the residency with in Canada and while you are outside. That form will have all of the details linking to the Canadian Government rulings and decisions. If they don't, then,.....
If you approach the Canadian Government for a decision, which you can, they will simply say to you that as long as you pay the taxes, does not matter where you are living and working, you can claim the residency, that is my understanding and it is a long shot, at that. Of course the canadian company has to be a resident company 'in standing', and you are a bonafide employee, getting a transfer of residence to represent them in a far away land for a period. Make sure that the company will bring you back at no cost and not ditch you there.
Now go and figure that out.
Please get back to us and tell what it is that you have learnt from them.
Freddie.

He still wants our inputs... Here it is for the next guy moving back to Dubai.
I hope the Desert Storm and the quick sands hasn't swallowed him up and he will get back to us, hope fully soon.
Thanks for bringing the dates up to my attention. Since this board is eternal, hope some one will find it in the time capsule.
