Chandresh, you're right. That's exactly my point is. Where from they got the money to fund their education? As I believe these schools charge a hefty sum as a part of their tution or other fees. It's not a struggle when they already have a great rich background that funded their education.

The struggle is when you really have $15 in your pocket and do not get educated anywhere in North America, there's noone else who is funding your expanses, and then with the hard work and 'Luck', you make it big. This is called struggle.

Chuck the guys in the States-

Think Dhirubhai, Narayan Murthy, Suzlon Energy. I am sure you guys can think of many more.

Narayan Murthy as the story goes had a good education and actually hitched hiked around Europe, before landing in India worked for Patni and then started with Rs 10,000 borrowed from his "patni" (wife).

What about the Indians in Dubai? The multis from Lagos?

I don't know which book Jake 3rd is referring to, but even I read a book that stated all rich fortunes were made by "unpads". In that was included the Coke guy, Ford, Carnegie, Ka Shing (HK tycoon), Stephen Lo (Macau casino billionaire) and also Dhirubhai.

I am sure many of you must have received the net story about the guy who was refused a job 'cos he didn't know zilch about email, went out bought tomatoes and sold them and became rich that way.

However, maybe the tables have turned and 'ejucated' (not ejaculated) guys make big bucks as well. Like Ram Shriram of Google.

But still isn't it usually a story about a guy who starts with small bucks and makes it big? Whether ejucated or not.
Exceptions are there: Howard Hughes, Azim Premji, Ratan Tata. I am sure there are many more.

All a mixed bag, really, maybe.

Sounds like Robert Miyosaki "Rich Dad, Poor dad"

True. I agree with your fire in the belly statement. Without that the others advantages seem to bottom out at some point. We can see examples on this site of education alone being not sufficient...especially when one is outside ones comfort zone(in this case outside homelands/close to homelands etc). Yet others, on CD itself, are unfazed and are ready to start from scratch and determined to come up again.

However,
Ivy league eductation (where ivy league connections follow)
+
Dad in biz (and able to support/help)
+
fire in the belly
...seems like quite the combination to have. :D.

But as you might recall, not too long ago the talk going around town was :

A high school dropout built an empire which two Harward graduates were bent of breaking to pieces (that's for Reliance!)
