Can anyone here let me know what kind of visa is needed to stop over in Dubai for 4 days while travelling to or from India.
The person in question is an Indian citizen with Canadian PR and living in Canada.
The Dnrd Website is utterly confusing and has very little information. All I could make out from that site was that for Canadian citizens, no visa is needed for stays of upto 30 days. But for Indian citizens, Canadian PR Holders, I cannot understand anything. They have Visit visa..tourist visa...Entry permits..the list goes on.

I understand that DNRD has come up with a new list which allows visit visas for Indian passport holders. Unclear on whether or not it has been implemented as yet.
Simplest would to ask your friends to sponsor you (a visa used to cost approx AED 350 or so a couple of years ago). alternatively, you could ask the airline (I think only Emirates does that) or your hotel to sponsoryou.
enjoy your trip to dubai - it's a piece of heaven.

And if one doesn't have friends or does not wish to use them ??
I guess checking with the Airlines shd be a better choice - they do have the latest info and some leverage for passengers traveling through them . 6 months back , Emirates was allowing a break journey @ Dubai for 2-3 days one side on a trip to India .

I too am visiting Dubai enroute to India and just finished submitting my visa application form. Did everything thru Emirates Airlines. I'd suggest you cud call Tel: 1-800-777-3999. The CSR's are extremely helpful and will answer all your queries as well as send you the visa application form online..
on a side note, where are you planning on putting up? We're still struggling to find some good hotels at a reasonable price.
Check this link - http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/international_travel_information/visa_passport_information/
In the selection, choose India as citizenship, Canada as "Alien resident of" and UAE for connecting and destination country.
It gives requirements for entry upto 96 hours (4 days) and for extended stay. In both cases, looks like visa is required, but can be obtained on arrival.
