vandemataram is absolutely correct. Just like I hate chinese people speaking in their language when I or some non chinese are standing around ... the same way we should not speak Hindi/Tamil etc when some non-desi is around.
That is just plain rude at the workplace.

According to you Canada is a multicultural country but you get ashamed when you speak in your mother tongue, keep your cultural values and respect your religion.

Because India did not decide to colonize countries and loot their wealth?
^^ let me explain. If there are a group of people together who ALL KNOW EACH OTHER e.g. at work, then you should try to speak in a language that all would understand. It is rude that if some of the people in a group speak in a language that others would not understand there by alienating them from the group and in most cases people think you are bad-mouthing them.
By a group I mean people physically close to each other and know each other. I and my wife speak in Hindi in malls, parks anywhere, but we are not in a "group" as by my definition.
