Are u sick man?

What you are trying to prove?

According to you Canada is a multicultural country but you get ashamed when you speak in your mother tongue, keep your cultural values and respect your religion.

vandemataram is absolutely correct. Just like I hate chinese people speaking in their language when I or some non chinese are standing around ... the same way we should not speak Hindi/Tamil etc when some non-desi is around.

That is just plain rude at the workplace.

What's sick about it? It is considered rude to use vernaculars while in a group. Won't you be uncomfortable if some Chinese in the group started talking to each other in Mandarin? I know I would mind it.

Welcome to etiquette 101 my friend.... :)

Then speak Hindi/Tamil only at home because at all other places you will definitely find someone who can't understand ur language.

You know why English is international language and not hindi/punjabi...?

Because India did not decide to colonize countries and loot their wealth?

previous poster is right. Its basic etiquette not to speak in any language that someone in the group will not understand. There are plenty of opportunities to speak your language otherwise.

No, even today supporters of English (May be you also) don't miss a chance to promote their language.

No one is looting your wealth today, then why you are so hesitant about speaking your language.
If u go to a public place with your love ones, would u mind speaking with them in ur own language. I hope u r not misunderstanding that u have to speak in hindi/tamil with other ethnicity people.

^^ let me explain. If there are a group of people together who ALL KNOW EACH OTHER e.g. at work, then you should try to speak in a language that all would understand. It is rude that if some of the people in a group speak in a language that others would not understand there by alienating them from the group and in most cases people think you are bad-mouthing them.

By a group I mean people physically close to each other and know each other. I and my wife speak in Hindi in malls, parks anywhere, but we are not in a "group" as by my definition.

Hope this makes sense :)
