I agree..and i am in for volunteering .... it will be a fun thing if the tasks are shared by all rather than giving the burden of organizing to just 2-3 people ... work together - play together

as for bus Vs car ...Biomed is right that there are many families without a car or cars which can do 200kms in a day ... but for them the bus would be an equally expensive option and the greatest advanage of cars is that everyone will have the flexibility to come and go as it suits and it takes the biggest burden out of organizing ....we should seriously try to share rides to accomodate everyone, after we get to know how many and who will be joining.

there are many great options for locations whatever is the consensus on location just show up at one designated time and date , bring all that one can bring along , games music , pot luck food ...

just get together...takeit easy and have fun

if we try to set up an fixed agenda and time table for everything and overorganize ... then whoever will be organizing would be pulling his hair coz when it comes to picnics and outings ... " especially with people we have not even met, the best way is to give everyone their freedom and space ...and just enjoy a random gathering of Canadian desis.

Can we just have a simple agenda ...

Lets meet at -----*Location* ---- @ 10.30am ( or whatever time) on ---*date *-----

Everyone bring food for 6 people , with disposables plates, cups etc. ( Just like one would do for their own family picnic and 2-3 extra people) and lets join together and share.
those interested, just inform on this forum itself how many will be joinging with you and what games etc you can bring so that one can coordinate with each other ....( we would not like to have 5 cricket bats and 9 wickets and no balls (no pun intended):D

i think it will be fun ...and so far i dont see any need to collect money or any initiate any major organizing effort.

this way even if a few families show up one can still enjoy .

as for options for locations --- i am very new and do not know much about ontario ...but i have heard lots of good things about 1000 islands....thinking of islands even toronto island is a option this way we dont have to drive very far and everyone can join ...after coming to downtown and takinf a short ferry ride.

what other options do you all suggest ?

going to all the message boards one finds these days mostly nice hum-drum conversations ...there are hardly any feiry debates or differences of opinions being voiced ....strangely enough i am kindof missing it ..

here is what i'd like to say to stir things up a little ,

I take strong expection to the way chandresh responded to the sridhar's picnic suggestion. One can understand his well intentioned forewarnings but he as always is jumping the guns here ...as things have not even started happenning for the picnic.

i think his response is a good example of the fact that ---- "over-organized gatherings will leave the organizer bitter"......he was the initiator of the first gathering and i applaud his efforts and hard work ...but look what is the result

Chandresh, i have high regards for you so please dont take it personally ...i just happen to have a different opinion.

but not to change the topic ....lets keep the suggestions for the picnic coming

I totally agree on that. and the idea of "Feel Free to join in ..."

As I said before , Count me in the Organizing team ...

Now People come out and ... Suggest Some Places ...

I know one in Belleville ... I forgot the name of Park & Beach (my memory :( )

We had been there last year, and guys i would love to go there again. It was great place.

Suggestion for location:

1. Thousand Island
2. Marineland
3. Algonquin

Please add other locations , let's make it at least 10 to start with , then we'll reduce it to the most popular 3 or 4 and have a final vote.

Let's keep the bus option open , if enough people are interested we can take a bus , those who want the flexibility or the low cost can drive or car pool. I'am for the catering option , Let's give a CD member some business! Any CD member owning/operating a bus or capable of preparing food for 50 please let us know!

I had no ill intentions when I had put forward my first post on this thread. It is simply that I personally get very irritated when people put questions, or throw an idea in just one or two lines, without elaborating what they have in their minds, or what exactly are they looking for (in case of questions). One liners do not help and either they attract unrelated responses, or start a discussion which leads into something not intended.

As one might see, when I start a thread, I put forward my thoughts on the subject and then my question or suggestion. You may look at “The Next Step” or “Ek Dabi Hui si Chah” or even when I wanted advice from forum members for university education in field of Law (I had given my circumstances, my son’s abilities and desires and then put forward a question – not simply asked – Can someone tell me the system of university education in field of law in Canada? – as many do!)

And if I remember correctly, a similar discussion/thread for Picnic was started sometime in June last year (I was in Indonesia then and I really felt that I wanted to participate in this picnic). It carried on for a long time, with lots of suggestions and a few volunteering offers – just as is being done now – but NO ONE took upon himself to commit and actually materialize the thing. Result? Forget the picnic, no one even remembers that we had a long discussion on this topic in exactly similar circumstances.

Compare it with “The Next Step” or “The Second Meeting”. For the first, I took the step to commit and for the second, it is Biomed. And to achieve these simple things, (as compared to a mass picnic outdoors), we had a few meetings at my place, and will have at Biomed’s place. And these two things actually materialized/will materialize. The Next Step meeting resulted in services like airport pickup, initial stay, and professional help sections after tons and tons of e-mails going back and forth between Garvo/Blue Lobster/Jake/Masood and myself and even today we are working on a bigger picture for CDesi. That meeting had a good response – we got over 150 registrations and persons like Jake and Sandy from Montreal and Masood from Vancouver attended it for 2 hrs because they found that there was someone ready to take it upon himself and get it done. In between a few persons just threw up suggestions of another meeting, time and again, but not a single person took upon himself to organize this, and so we did not have anything.

And just to add, I have organized various social and cultural programs in last 20 yrs – for corporate, for friends, for colleagues and even the Indian Embassy and India Club (with a membership of 600 families), so I can safely say I KNOW what all is required to organize a public activity.

Still with this explanation if you guys feel that my first post was in bad taste, I sincerely apologize and will try to not offer such comments in future.

Chandresh

isn't this what you wanted MI?;)

Ok.. I'am missing something here.... I said

"Summer's around the corner... Why don't we hire a bus for a day and go somewhere? Any suggestions? "

and the response I get is.....

"It is simply that I personally get very irritated when people put questions, or throw an idea in just one or two lines, without elaborating what they have in their minds"

I reread my post a hundred times , I still cannot think of anything that would "elaborate what I have in my mind" any more than the words in the post....Maybe others can help me by showing how they would phrase a similar message to accomodate easily irritable members?
