I'm a Software QA Analyst working for a fortune 500 company in the US and my Employment Based Green Card (2nd category) is in process with a priority date of Jun 2007. I'm also a Canadian PR holder since Jan 2008 and I have to move to Canada by Jan 2011 in order to meet 2 out of 5 years residency requirement.
I have 10 years of experience in IT with enough savings to survive for 2 years. Though I'm well paid in the US, with no hope of US GC in sight, I'm thinking if moving to Canada could be a better idea? Your inputs please.
Tough question!
Where are you located? Can you move to one of the branch that is close to the border? If yes then of course the decision will be litlle easy to move to canada and work in US.
But if you feel your job is stable then stay there and wait for GC, else for 4.5 years you will be stuck here waiting for Passport and then planning to move back to US.
Good luck.
I'm located in San Diego, California and my company doesn't have any office close to the Canadian border. As my US GC is employment based, I need to be constantly employed until the approval comes through (God knows when). The uncertainty and wait time involved in the process is simply too much. I'm already approaching my 6th year in the US.
1) Stay in US wait for GC. if you have a relatively stable job even in this economy with the fortune 500 company then it should not be a probem to continue on H1
2) Leave the job, search new job in Canada (very good chances on a 20% less income), loose the application process time on GC, although you are eligible to apply for citizenship, you will get passport after 4.5 to 5 years., no savigns during that time since cost of living is comparatively high and lower income, and blame yourself that why did I leave nice sunny San Diego and landed in harsh cold.
US economy is inbad shape but could start recovery, Canada is on the way to get into recession..
You choose!
I would agree with manserwadekar. Keep your fingers crossed that you will remain employed and since you are on EB2, the possibility of the dates moving faster is high. Currently, EB2 for India COB is May 2006, so, you are not too far off. You can, as you know, renew your current status indefinetely on a 3 year basis if you don't have the EAD.
