Surrender of Indian Passport

Hi friends,
I am scheduled to visit India in October this year, and I am kind of confused on the issue of the old Indian Passport, I do hold OCI, can anyone on the forum share their experiences who has first hand info on this issue.

Your Indian passport should have the "cancelled" stamp in it. When you travel, you travel with your Cdn passport and OCI card.

If the passport already has cancelled stamp, is it mandatory to pay the fee and get surrender certificate. I don't get the clear information on any website.

Are we also to carry the expired Indian passport with us while travelling to India?

I did visit India during Oct 09, with my OCI and Cdn passport only without any issues though

According to website of CGI New York, it is required even if you have your OCI etc.
