TK, We are here talking about car worth around $15,000 to $20,000, not a car which worth it around $3000.
could you explain why "White people do not lie" ??
I had a so many bad experience with white people who lied and cheated me....
Does not matter whether its a 3000/- car of 30000/- car ... the basics still remain the same ... the dealer would add their commission to it... in the form of an Administrative fees or something else..... Its a know fact that dealers make more money on used cars.
Plus you never know the history of a car whether it was owned by a black , a desi , a white or someone else ...To me the history of the car as well a house makes a difference.
You would never know whether the car was smoked in as the smell of smoke goes away after a couple of months.
And getting the warranty and going after the dealers in case of used cars ....Come on there are so many ifs and buts in that , you would not succeed with that ....
Plus you can not get a car inspected by showing it to a garage.
I have known 2 friends who went with dealers and got lemons ..One brought a Honda Civic which had 4 different tires and had to get the engine done after a month and another has had his engine light come on in the 4th month....
And then there are dealers who would sell cars registered in other provinces in which case you may not get car fax history....
Now why would I buy privately ... I have brought and sold at least 6-7 vehicles in India , Gulf and here and experience tells me that here people lie much less .... call it cultural but the morality is high here --- I was once offered money back on a dishwasher I d brought which did not work since I d put normal dish washing liquid in it.. and I did the same when I sold a transmission ridden car by disclosing the fact to the buyer even though I got less price.
One thing which I have learnt from experience - before you buy a vehicle check out the owner - if he looks like a careful , honest guy , he would have maintained the vehicle well.Beware of Asians or blacks but if you go to a white especially in a suburb , chances are you will get a better vehicle for lesser price.
I would buy from a senior preferably a single owned car- in fact my current vehicle is from one who was advised not to drive anymore.

Just buy it from some old italian lady or a old white man.

Dealers have more options of selling bad cars to you as they buy from auction and they rely on their mechanic to fix it.
Atleast private sellers have used it for their personal use and many white people donot lie.

wrong, you can check car with your own Mechanic before purchase...

for your information, as per MTO rules each axle tires should be match with other tire.....otherwise won't pass SAFETY... tell your friend to go through MTO and he will get Brand new 4 tires if this is the case.... all the best...

wrong...dealer has to provide car fax report or you can ask and dealer is responsible to give a car fax report...

When anyone buys a car, he always checks out the car and not the seller. There are a few private sellers who will let you drive the vehicle on a test run and feel how good the vehicle performs on the road. Prior to driving it on the road you see if the mirrors function, the signals work, the lights are O.K. and there are no 'Engine Lights'. You also check the Heat, A/C Radio and all of the checks that one normally does plus the one under the hood to make you feel comfortable. A few will let you have it for the day and let you get it checked by your own Mechanic and see if it will do the job for a sufficient length of time, you come back and do the deal.
One thing to remember is, all or most of the vehicles will need on an average a set of FOUR Tyres once every Four or Five years. A Battery every five years, an Exhaust and Muffler every Three or Four years, a tune up, an oil change a good car wash and a nice shining job or as they call it here 'Detailing'. Some sellers prepare the vehicle to get a fast sale. They will also give you a break. If it was in an accident, then you don't have to buy. If there is rust, you don't have to buy. And if you don't like the color of the vehicle or the dings and dents then, once again you don't have to buy.
If I see it is performing suitably well and the Mechanic gives me a thumbs up, then I will consider it suitable and go on to the next step. All of this does not come cheap. It has cost me a few bucks by that time. An emission test and a Safety is a Must, prior to purchase.
The advantage of buying the same from a Private Individual is that he has to provide you with a Used Vehicle Information Package. You can also verify a few of the things from it prior to even driving the vehicle. If you don't like it, then take it off your buy list.
Once a dealer acquires a used vehicle, he NEED NOT TELL YOU ANYTHING MORE ABOUT IT. If you like it buy it OR get the hell out of there. That is the only choice you will have. The used vehicle record gets EXPUNGED from the system, when a dealer takes over.
You have to evaluate a lot of things about a Used vehicle prior to purchase and see how soon all of these repairs will hit your wallet and if you are ready with the dollars to fix it. Then comes the snow tires. Some sellers will throw them in. A dealer does not do that.
After going through the routine checks if you find the vehicle decent enough for purchasing, you are not going to spend some time to evaluate the seller and his ancestry. When I am buying a USED CAR, I am buying a Used car that I LIKE TO DRIVE and hope all of the expenses come trickling in very slowly.
