Getting your name changed on the Indian passport will be a red tape and bureaucratic nightmare. The number of frustrated trips you will make to Indian embassy and its outsourcing agents like BLS will be ridiculous.

Later on when you get Canadian citizenship and try to get OCI, they will give you a hard time if all the names on the Canadian ID's, Landing Paper and Indian Passport don't match.

My case is very simple let me rephrase it again.

On my Indian passport there is no First and last name just only given name as Asim Syed. Based on it have got the same on my landing papers, PR card and all other remaining Govt id's such as (Driving license, Health card, SIN etc);

To oversee further I need this to be correct and segregate as per appropriate naming format such as (First name & Last name). Therefore, I just need to change as Firstname: Asim Lastname: Syed insted. I hope its clear so please advise how do i correct it what's the right approach.

1) Do i need to first change on my Indian passport and than approach to Govt of Canada (Service Ontario office for further process)?

(OR)

2)Without any changes on Indian passport can Govt of Canada (Service Ontario) accept the changes ? will it be valid than for Indian govt when i get the Canadian citizenship?

Let me know guys which approach is better Option 1 or 2 ?

My experience says otherwise. Been a very smooth ride, from dealing with the Vital Stats Agency for name change (< 30 days) to the Indian Consulate (<3 weeks). Never had any problems with even the Indian Consulate dealings ever after. Applied for PIO and got it in time with no questions asked and without multiple visits. I also visited India with the corrected name on PR Card and the different name on Passport having an endorsement of name change on one of the pages. Never faced any issues with Indian immigration officials on the Airport.

OP, rest assured. it's not a difficult process. From the Canadian side, you don't even need to visit any agency. The work gets done via. mail/phone. From the Indian Consulate point of view, they endorse the new name on a separate page on your existing Indian passport. Make sure the name on your PR card also reflects the new name. May as well travel with the Name Change cert on a first few occasion just to be on a safe side. I never had to furnish the one. Once you receive your Citizenship and the new passport, that further ends all your remaining worries and all your official documentations will now be consistent. Where it is not, you always have the official Name Change Certificate.

You'll be okay.

Number 2. Why don't you go and inquire with Service Canada? They will all the answers for you. Likewise, pay a visit to the Indian Consular services. But, ideally you should get a Name change cert and then get all the docs done.

You only have the Indian Passport. That is the best travel document that you have. So, get that cahnged first. You have proper directions for changing the name change or getting it done on a NEW Passport. A new Passport looks to be the BEST route and you must maintain BOTH the Passports from here on for legal purposes, because you have a stamp on the very first Passport that you have for your landing. That will link your ORIGINAL name to that Passport.

Based upon your New Name and New Passport, you can make a declaration in any publication for a name change and becomes LEGAL after that. Keep a few copies of the PUBLICATION of the name change, and copies of the Very First Passport that you landed here with the stamping. (You will need this for your Canada Pension and OAS also.)

FH.
Just for the asking, "Does your Birth Certificate also have the correct name that you want yourself to be called by?" if not see the possibilities of getting that also modified, if you can. I am only guessing that it might be the problem that it all got started with in the first place. Because, that Certificate ought to mention your FIRST name and the LAST name. (And also any MIDDLE name if it was given at the time of registration.) You cannot get a NEW SIN card, that is out of the picture. The rest you can get changed, might cost you a few bucks. So what?!

Can your please elaborate on your bad experiences with BLS ?
All my BLS experiences ( barring the fee they charged) were good... one case- one visit type. passports reached home without much hassles. Would like to know more from some personal experiences.
