You still have an option of not resigning and going back for another two years since I guess out of the given 5 years you got to stay 3 years for getting citizenship. Honestly I feel struggle here now then wait another 2 years. It is worth the struggle. How much would you earn anyway in India
Micky,
Think twice before coming here. B'lore is a great place for IT folks. See if you can come here on an assignment if your firm has a client. Then you will see how things, people, etc.
Dont burn bridges in B'lore before you leave. You never know how things change in hi tech sector.
OK....Ottawa_Nerd & Kaps...
First of all, lemme say that Ottawa_Nerd is one cool username :-)
I am not a s/w techie guy...I am a s/w Process Consultant...kinda like a Quality_Nerd :-)
My decision to move was made about 4 years ago...when I applied for immigration. But in 4 years a lot of things changed...4 years ago I was a s/w engg...coding on mainframes...hoping to go to Canada and do an MBA...and slowly move away from the s/w scene and try out other stuff.
September 11 had changed a lot of things...and I had actually given up hope on Canada....in the meantime I gained a lot of experience in s/w quality...I have been part of CMM & CMMI deployment teams. And now I am in one of the top 5 s/w companies in the world. But something keeps telling me to move...maybe it because I am a risk taker :-)...or maybe it's because I still want to do an international MBA & move on.
I will NOT let this chance go by. I will give Canada a shot...inspite of all the crazy & not so inspiring things I get to hear about immigrants over there.
Besides s/w quality & a lot of other things that I love in life...I love adventure...I love Motorcycles & I love Martial arts...and I've seen it all here in India (almost). I am assuming that Canada has a lot to offer for freaks like me......and I am going to Explore.
And...Oh Yeah Kaps... I am still a bachelor (freedom unlimited :-).....I'm all ready for marriage...the only thing missing is the girl :-)
I have got my landing papers....and medicals expire in March05...so I am planning to land in Canada by early next year.
Hey ...one more thing ...do you guys know any immigrant who is doing a full time/part time MBA course there? If so please gimme their contact info. I am assuming that a Canadian MBA would give a lot of leverage in the canadian job market.
Do keep in touch dudes !!
:-)

"ccheryl" & "desi in ottawa"...thanks for your response...
I am exploring all my options out here....which include:
* Trying to get a transfer to our office in Canada
* Trying to get long leave (say 1or 2 or even 3 months).
etc...etc
S/W Quality (my area of work) is mainly an offshore activity...so travel to customers onsite is not that frequent.
In other words going to Canada for a s/w assignment for me is like...OUT.
Keep in touch!!

Hi Mickey,
Guess you might have read my earlier message.
I understand that you are a fun loving guy...young n energetic.
With the kind of outdoor adventures you are inetrested in you might be fit for Canadian lifestyle.
Regarding MBA...beware...Canada is not USA..where MBA'a are respected.
MBA will be a big disqualification for you..coz you may be more qualified than your prospective boss.
If you think you can get some Managerial position...you are living in false hope. Keep yourselves in s/w field...you will get jobs. In Canada they dont want people to manage people...they want people who work...if you are a working Project Manager....you might succeed.
In India..after certain age / experience when you reach management position..you dont work by yourselves..you make programmers under you to work...and you supervise............
Supervisory / Managerial positions are mostly for " CANADIANS" irrespective of whether they have MBA or not.
You will succeed as long as you are hands on...........
Try your luck man.......May God bless you.
Deep
