Giving it a bit more thought, I would agree with Chandresh. Maybe too many all at the same time might to too much to deal with. If everything gets organized and space is the only issue then I can be the host. I dont have a problem with it.
When was the proposed date for this gathering?

How about asking people to shell out some dough. Book a banquet hall and do the whole thing in a befitting manner? Those places are big and there will be no need to limit the number of desis participating. The catering too should be left to the banquet hall fellows.
Ok...who is going to be the first to shoot this down??

I agree to the Banquet Hall idea. In fact, its a great idea.
Also each of us can put in ... $ 5 or 10 to cover up the cost of the catering. If its gonna be a large gathering, then that much is not too much for us...right? Collect it at the door.
BTW, the Hall should be booked up asap, as you all know near Christmas time, it will be hard to get it.
( I guess I am the only female going to this party, or should I cancel? What say?)

Lets meet once a month and start to arrange this desi party - and then do it regularly - how about we all meet next week Sunday at 4pm at Kelseys

Hi Everybody,
As already been suggested by the members that meeting should be arranged at a place where we can all meet, talk, sing and dance etc. This is not possible in a 'Tim Horton' or a 'Kelsey' etc. The banquet hall option could prove to be a little costly. Hence, I believe we should look for a community centre or a party room in one of the member's condominiums, which could be available for a nominal cost and can serve our purpose.
I live in Scarborough(McCowan/Sheppard) and my condominium is very close to highway 401 and is also very well connected with TTC. It does have a party room which can accomodate around 60-65 people. Hence, if it is convenient to every one and the gathering is not going to be more than 60-70 people, I can book the 'Party Room' and I would gladly pay for the booking charges myself. It also has around 30 chairs and 3 big tables, on which we can put all the food. If there are more than 30 people coming, we can always arrange for some more chaires. The party room also has a separate kitchen which is equipped with Microwave, Hot plates and Fridge etc.
If every desi brings food for 4-5 people each, then we can certainly have a good pot luck lunch on a Sunday afternoon and this way not only would we enjoy good food but it would be very cost effective as well and we can have a fun filled afternoon. We can play games like Tambola etc. and can enjoy listening to the talented Desi Singers as well.
If this is acceptable to every one then I can go ahead with the booking and we can have confirmations from the Desi's going to make it and then we can delegate other stuff to whoever volunteers.
Please comment.
