1. non-descrimination is the basic reason why immigrants seem to like Canada - so if you like it for yourself, why do you discriminate if you have to stand with the labour class?
2. don't you have to stand with labour/truck drivers/welders/sweepers and yes, senior executives too in the same queue to get your OHIP or driving licence and get yourself clicked by a camera in a similar fashion they show in movies being done in prisons? Why this is acceptable if the blood sample queue is not acceptable?)

There’s a big difference between queues in Canada and the Middle East. The point being made was that government officials in the Middle East tend to treat browns in general in a derogatory manner. Ever seen a government peon shouting, screaming at and abusing people queued up in a line in Canada? I’ve seen that happen in the Middle East.

Also remember that you go back for the same blood test every year in most countries in the Middle East as a condition for the renewal of your work permit.

I hope you are not using truck-driver in a denigrating sense. My cousin brother, to use a very Hinglish term, who is highly educated with an MBA from Egypt, and also requalified here from Queen's with an MBA, is an owner/operator of a trucking co, he was working as atruck driver while studying and decided to continue in this line to pay his loan but kept on in this line, and he now lives in a million dollar home. I am the business account manager of a shceduled bank and I cannot afford a million dollar home.
I do not know of many countries where a truck driver can live in a million dollar home. Definitely not in India and not in the ME.
Here are my "ithnain"(two ) cents here, why are you comparing Canada to ME. Like someone said somewhere it is like comparing oranges and apples. The end result will be more a mental exercise, which is good, than coming to a consensus and also reading some worthwhile English. The language you people use is very good. I have shown some native Canadians this site and they are surprised at the level of English used. They did not think that first generation Indians could write such good English (crenshaw, Mr India, Chandresh, Yours truly, Blue Lobster, BKB etc). Many had a laugh at the conspiracy theory, no offense to you jago-desi, but they agree with you in principle that it is horrific that immigrants are duped by the Canadian govt. They sympathise with you, but everybody is so wrapped up in their lives that they just read, comment and go about their daily work, like anybody else.
Keep up the dialogue/debate, please don't let it deteriorate into a slug fest though,I may not contribute much, but I do read this daily. It has become like somebody said, like a soap opera. I just have to tune in.

while in Rome do as the Romans do
I don't know whether there are any Punjabis over here. However, being an owner of a transport company and employing few hundred people here, I don't know whether its a good idea to emigrate to Canada. Money in Dubai is big, but there is no security, and, in the long-term, I don't know whether business will be as good as it is right now. Unfortunately, when most people look at Punjabis in UAE, they think they are labourers or truck drivers. Surprisingly, there are many high calibre businessmen as well. There is no respect here for us although we may be doing well. However, going to Canada and re-starting is another risk by itself. Anyone has any experience in running a business in Canada? Would the business produce good returns like in Dubai? I see most people here are disillusioned professionals who have left UAE and are driving Taxi Cabs or delivering pizzas in Canada. I'm just wondering whether that would be good or bad for the restaurant owners or taxi-cab number plate leasing companies. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks Cds. We were bit confused earlier when some CDs gave very negative picture about Canada in another thread. We are planning to move to Canada from Saudi Arabia this year inshallah.

Hi everyone! I understand that this topic was started sometime last year.
Things look very different in Dubai these days. There are major cut backs in both private and public sectors. Lots of job losses and mass visa cancellations. You may also have heard about the news regarding many cars being left abandoned by the fleeing workers in the UAE.
Developed economies like ours have a better chance to stay afloat in these tough times than other countries.

Amit ,
You ve reminded me of 2000 when in the US people who were pink slipped left their cars at the Airport while leaving the country .... if this won't happen in Canada - it is perhaps due to the fact that incumbents to Canada are not work permit related as in the ME or the US .
This thread seems to have started in 2004 ..... 5 years back.
