For telephone, many of us says "Ring me" or "Give me a ring" - don't use it here as ring is not phone call here. It is wedding ring. Especially don't use it with any lady/girl!

Sounds like Canadian English is very much like South African English!

Give me a shout... means give me a call...
Page Me - means have me traced down.
Too many Irons in the fire - means too many cases to handle.

Trunk - means the car boot. I used to use the word " dickie"
Front - means bonnet of the car.. I experienced this when i went to get my car serviced.

back up/ pile up/ bender fenders ?? whats that? - well the first one is with a traffic snarl, the other two could mean higher insurance premium payment times s for the car owners.

The best one is grid lock - and I heard a conversation stating Traffic Jam.

Drop me a line- Now how can anyone do that?.

:L I did the same once... someone almost busted their gut laughing at me.

And for the smokers out there...do not go for a 'fag' in Canada

:p

take away = to go
car boot = car trunk
sauce (incase u call it that) = ketchup
indicator = turn signal
hazard = four way flashers (sometimes hazard)
overtake = pass

football = soccer
american football = football
hockey = field hockey
ice hockey = hockey

torch = flashlight
zebra crossing = crossing (I think)

Red Indians = Native Canadian/Native America/First Nations people. The correct term is First Nations people .. never say Red Indian. Avoid using color for any race .. not blacks but African Americans.
Indian = Indian/East Indian
Indians from the Carribean = West Indians

DiscoTheque/Danceclub = nightclub
Cold Drink = pop (any fizzy drink like coke)

bhindi (lady fingers) = okra
(baigan) brinjal = egg plant
capsicum = green peppers
mooli = reddish (I never knew that they were called in english)

sorry for putting this entry in. it may offend some people but the most important one is

rubber- eraser.

i had a bad time when i asked for an eraser from my friends.
don' t ever make this mistake.

Its the other way round .. dont say Rubber .. because Rubber refers to a condom .. so say Eraser.

Also If I recollect correctly you take an exam if you are answering the questions (the student), you give an exam if you are the teacher handing the question papers to the students.

there is no equivalent of our hindi fractions in counting ...like
pauna - three quarters
sawa - quarter
derh - 1-1/2
dhai - 2-1/2

and those who have heard a bihari speak hindi ...there is no equivalent to the term "tho"
du tho, teen tho:D

another funny one is glass - cup
there is no such thing as paper glass---

when i first heard the term quarter back in NFL i thought a team gives "quarter goal back " to other team ...
