Hi

I live in Chennai and I would like to state that whatever TK states has nothing to do with or is dictated by "Tamil Culture" as he would like to call. Culture means the different types of food we eat , the clothes we wear, the festivals we celebrate, the language and dialects we speak. Culture does not tell us how to behave or bring up kids .....these are inferences which we pick up thru generations of diffrent kinds of people so pl dont claim this to be tamil culture Folks we are all Indians speaking tamil and we are what you are not any different , tamilians dont have any special horns.

About bringing up children my husband says " Children are thru you and dont belong to you" as quaoted by Khalil Gibran. It means that they are individuals in their own right and parents are there to provide them with what they can , guide them when required, maintain a happy family environment and be there when ever the children need them.

I have experienced what happens when parents force their view what they believe and all it leads to is frustruation till a certain age and later become a rebel.

All TK says has to do is with immigration , If things are so bad why not get back now , India is booming with opportunities and with both parents educated you will living a much better lifestyle and living with your daughter most importantly. Dont believe that you are sacrificing all this for your child , she did not ask you to and neither will it make any difference to her when all she gets is money but not her parents which is her birthright. Dont do something like that to her.:(

As a parent I try to inculcate both western and Indian ways of parenting, I read international books on upbringing of children and I also listen to my mother on her ideas of how children will be like and how to inculcate good habits. I have 2 children a son who is 3.5 and a daughter who is 2. There are times when I spank my son for hurting his sister but we are trying to minimise that too by grounding him etc. He understands that better. I have realised that when I spank him he emulates that on other people so I can see which system is better.

Morning-rain : U have amazing views on raising kids , when I had kids I had no idea , I keep learning it gradually by reading books and talking to other parents, Kudos to you.

The only person here with any brains seems to be Morning_Rain. I salute you. Anyone who raises a hand on a child, should be kicked in the nuts. I am so glad that my parents never hit me. I love them more than anything in the World.

Also, people who hit children just prove their inability to handle any situation properly. True idiots. How sad, a grown man "kicking" a kid.

This is beautiful. Also I would add, "You belong to them to support till they are Adults"....

I remember Shankracharya mentioned "Only decent discussions", I believe it also means not to brand the members with their inabilities which may be true or false, not to use unethical words to Discussion forums..

Anyhow, I take your point for a tougher response to parents hitting the Kids.... Its a Crime not just against the justice but humanity.

All this discussion is meaning less.

All the "India " and "Indian" suporters are foolish to have migrated in the first place.

They should have stayed back in the "Good" culture.

Well I want to clear this point with a small example

Say some of your friends recommended you to go to a famous restaurant..

You decide to go there on the weekend..but you did not like the food that much.

So you as a normal person would decide that well next time we wont eat there becoz we did not not like the food that much.

So same goes with Canada....unless you come and stay here you cannot really analyze the true situation....

and moreover it's my personnel choice...I came to Canada as a choice and I'm deciding to go back for good ..that's my choice which I feel it's better 500% than Canada...

This site is for all users to express theirs view freely...

I'm not telling anyone to hate Canada or love it..I'm just telling what I feel that I think India today is a better destination in terms of standard of living, money, jobs, social circle, growth and the most important thing LIFE!

Life -
In India, if one is hurt in a traffic accidents, no one is going to help you run to the Hospital. You hear often "Police ka Problem hey saab".
Many women and girls who are sexually molested or even if they are very badly hurt sexually, they don't report it to Police.. coz.., Police brands them there after with their own terms, the victim become prone to further similar assaults as it would be seen as an easy target.

Lately Bangalore is very badly hurt by crimes including robbery, rape, murder etc.., Police suggest not to walk alone or in very small group in the evenings in uncrowded area (Not very suburbs though), lots of robberies are reported, no control of rent, no control of real estate. I may earn more but what if I need to spend all for an average life. If a product is 10 Rs.., next year it could be 11 or 11.5 Rs or at the most 12 Rs.. , but it goes to 15Rs., all the way...
School fees are abnormal if one wants to send to a good school plus lots of Pre-reqs.

I do not justify all the way that India is not an option.. If one could afford to settle in their home town with either work or business along with reasonable financial support, it is very good.. else one need to relocate to a different city, then it is something one has to think about...

And you could find the Positives and Negatives of Canada in several other threads..I think I don't once again need to get into that..

- JRF.
