Hi,
My bell phone is not working...there is no dial tone. I called bell and the lady told me that they will send a technician at my home to look into the problem but they will charge $75 to determine the problem or I have to sign up a plan for $7/month. Is it normal? I thought it should be Bell's responsibility and they should do it free of charge? What can I do to avoid these charges.? I Live in rental apartment building? Please reply.

Tell them, you are switching the service to Rogers. They will do the diagonistic for free. But it is internal problem then you have to pay for the fix
I have the exact same problem! My line died on Friday. I am getting a Bell tech to come in Monday morning. I will let you know what happened.
The help line person said that if the problem is internal to the building it is my responsibility. If it is outside Bell will take care of it. The $7/month is a 12 month contract AFAIK.
The wierd part is that my Bell DSL still works, although there are frequent connection drops. Speed is also much less. This is due to lot of static on the line, which I found after doing some diagnostics. Not sure of the reason though...
Cheer - Just wanted to let you know. Had a Bell tech come out to our apt. The problem was due to water logging because of the rains last week. The cabling outside the bldg was damaged. Nothing will be charged to us.
In the case of our DSL, there a problem with a switch back at the central office, which will also be fixed by them.
Hope this helps.

Does this mean if a problem was found with the internal wiring, Bell would have charged you, even if you did not ask them to fix it.
