Are you looking at doing a desi based book reading marathon? ya i do that at times too..
I have read these books that are desi based and the recommendations are purely based on my liking

Q & A - Vikas Swarup (recommended)

Bombay : Maximum City - Suketu Mehta

Shantaram - Gregory David Roberts (recommended)

Funny Boy - Srilankan backgroud (but a desi can relate) by Shyam Selvadurai
a Toronto based author (recommended)

Brahma's Dream - Shree Gatage

A Suitable Boy - Vikram Seth

The Namesake - Jhumpa Lahiri

thanks for the replies, and sorry for the delay on my part, thanks to Edmonton Public Library I am able to get most books, currently prefer Audio CD as can just soak it in while driving.
I really liked Q&A , very well knit story
