I parked in a plaza (Plaza A) that said authorised parking only menaing customers for that plaza can park.
I parked my car, walked across to another plaza (plaza B) that had paid parking. Finished my work their and returned to plaza A where I had parked my car and also finished my work in this plaza too. When I returned to car, the security guy gave me ticket for $ 40 saying you walked across to other plaza, I saw you. (Parked in pvt property).
I said but I bought stuff from this plaza too, here it is , he said, oh ya good lie, I will make a note of that too in my notes.
Ques : Was I correct in what I did or not ?
I am debating, if I pay, it is easy, just online whereas if I fight, you have to go first to sign that you intend to fight and then on court date too…and then result is not unknown.
Do not pay and show your purchases the same plaza from where you parked. Deny that you have gone anywhere else even if it is written on your ticket.
Do you think the buildings have camera all around the building to see parking lot ?
The security guard saw me walking back frm other plaza. If I fight, he is going to come and affirm he saw me walking.
Do you think that for $40 ticket they are going to review the camera footage? Somebody mentioned to me that parking officer do not attend the court dates.
If you call the court, they may drop the ticket once you show them purchases. Are your purchases before the time on the ticket?
Is it a govt owned or private plaza? If private, they cannot enforce any tickets. There are court rulings against that. They can send it to a collection agency, and you can refuse to pay them as well - with a copy of ur receipt etc. Then, if they file a court case to recover, then you can fight it there too.
Doubt it any one will go to this step. My guess is, you may hear from the collection agency in 6 months time and if you respond with a copy of ur receipt etc., then you won't hear back from them again.
Only real damage they can do is tow your vehicle - legally, so you won't want to keep offensing them. Another aspect is, if they send it to collection agency, it will show up in your credit file. But then, if you have a 300K mortgage on one hand and a $40 unpaid ticket on the other, no one is going to refuse you any credit based on the $40 ticket!
On top of ticket it says
The Corporation of the Town of Richmond Hill
Provincial offences enforcement
Provincial offences act
