We have taken FIDO two year plan and we find that, we are being cheated out of our money because being a new immigrant, my husband was unware of this and he committed to two year plan and now we are paying monthly $25 for 100 mts outgoing and paying additional $12, we have made incoming free since he is getting telephone interview. But to our shock, though we are not using any outgoing and incoming because he is attending co-op, where he is not allowed to take calls, unless it is emergency., we are receiving bills of around $80 adn $100 per month. When we asked FIDO to cancel our plan and we don't wish to continue with them, they are asking us to pay $400 for a mobile which is not worth more than $100. could you all please guide us how to handle this and which is best plan in the market.
In UAE, we had to pay for SIM card for a year say aed 100 and they used to give incoming free for a year and outgoing pay as you go. Do we have such scheme in canada, if so, please guide us.
thanks in advance. eagerly awaiting your help.

Fido is one of the cheapest in market.
Two year contract and the $400 break fee can not be waived (unless there is some other loop hole like may be some other phone company will pay this provided you go on a 3 year contract with them etc...).
What you can do this, call the CSR ans ask him to strip away all the add on's and so that you will only have the very basic like 100 mins free and evenings and Weekend free.
Then you can restrict your bill to $40 a month.
This is Canada where the govt. / market cheats people to earn money. you canot compare it with USa or UAE or India.
Canada is a country where if you are not seeing, they will even steal your dress / belongings !
Welcome to the Immigrant unfriendly land.
Hope this helps.

You can check the break-up of their bill to check what they are charging. If there is any discrepancy, you can ask them to clarify.
If you find the bill to be correct, then I do not think you can do much about it.
Normally there would be a connection fee in the first month's bill (which is a one time charge). The first bill also will have the monthly charge for the subsequent month (they charge in advance for every month). Due to these reasons, the first bill is normally big amount-wise.
These are based on my experience with Virgin Mobile.
If you are getting charged around $80 - 100 every month without using more than your free time limit, then you have to call the customer service and check why they are charging and ask for a break-up for the charges (if the details are not available in your bill). That may give you some idea.
Also go through the contract that you have signed with them.
FIDO is supposed to be one of the better options available currently in the market (or so I thought).
Just my two cents.

Please stop posting your toxic negative garbage here. New immigrants or others who are looking for genuine advice dont need your "Helpful" words. Just because you experience one thing doesnt make it the reality for everyone else.

thanks cd's for your help and advise. I am shocked to see there is nothing called SIM card sold here. It is high time somebody like reliance in India, started their business in canada and captured the market like they did in India. For that matter canada and USA has to go along way in comparison to India and other developing countries in case of telecommunication system.
