People who are coming new to the country don't get fooled when they say Heatlcare is free.
It is not. You will get access to a Doctor or a Specialist but what people never say is that you need to pay for your medications. Govt does not pay for it.
Unless you are employed and have a insurance plan or buy your own you will have to pay for your medication.
Medication in North America is quite expensive.
I don't get it when people say "Healthcare: Much better then other places we have lived in and according to me its good."
What is the point going to a Doctor if you can't pay for the medication.
Look at UK / Europe they pay for everthing even the medication whether you are employed or not. You dont need to pay for it. That is called a good heatlcare system.
I am not saying Canada is a bad place but people who come here new get fooled by what all is made public.
Just for everyone knowledge - Canada had 5000 new doctors in the last 5 years and their population increased by 5Million. Think about the ever increasing wait times.

Thats what I am also saying but look at the number.
5000 New Doctors and population raised by 5Mil.
Point is that the govt is not investing at a proportial rate in the medical system as compared to the rise in population. The system was already over burdened and is more stressed than ever before.
I would like to say, in comparison to folks who came here thinking there is a gold rush in progress, I was compelled to show up in Canada as my options dried up! By the time 911 happened, I was more or less busy in the good ol' US tinkering with biotech. Then the INS processing came to a halt as the US went about reforming the INS and years went by... then it was a rush; at the end of H1 visa period, I scrambled to find a place to move to, hauling all my stuff in the super 4-wheeldrive I acquired while living there. South of the States was no place for tech so naturally i looked North and showed up here as soon as some Corp offered a job in their R & D. Did I hate Canada? I sure did... winter showed up within months after I arrived and that kinda deflated my moods... damn snow sticks to the ground for months! Canadian insurance rates were a disappointment so i kept my US documents for vehicle and remained a visitor for 3 years. I hoped to return to the US in the 2nd year but then one day I got the request for PR visa; I did secure my job back in the US but with the Canadian PR card in hand, I wasn't sure if I should return to the US and start the whole process at square one.... So I did a lil thinking: I was moving at the rate of 28k net savings at the end of 1st year here and I was averaging 25k back in the US. This number alone kept me back here. The documents on the truck have expired since and my super wheeler is sitting in the garage! I am not willing to cough up much money to feed the insurance Corps... So I use mass transit and/or taxi for getting around.
Canadian healthcare is a slow slug; in my 2nd year, I developed a retinal problem and these fellers gave me a 4-month wait period. My health is paramount to me and this is the first serious issue I had in my life so I made quick trip to Long Island Retinal Clinic and had the first treatment (it cost 2k but it is better than freaking out for months about the suspense). For the subsequent treatments, I have been using the local system and it is nice if you don't need really urgent treatment (if I waited 4 months the first time, the retinal damage due to blood leak would have become substantial; I know this from advice as well as the nature of this disease progression). For maintenance therapy, Canadian health system is fine.
I think I was lucky to skip out on all these 'struggle' aspects of settling here. I am past 300k now (in net private retirement savings) and still prefer to rent.
I think it would greatly help if one arrives here with a job they love. Maybe that is ALL they need! LOL

We all know that other side of the river is always appears greener.
Children from the same parents are different. So do opinions differ.
Both India and Canada have its own distinctive flavour. Now,how much u
are able accept it is the main question.
Canada has many plus points like clean air, fresh water, reasonably good health care system, free high school education, reasonably good job prospect (if u r educated in Canada) and of course very less corruption. I have many friends whose children (including mine) are working in Canada because they are all reasonably educated (my son is a chemical engineering grad of 2007 from Toronto and got a job of his own without any "suparish". Yes,drugs and alcohol absuses are quite common but we have to teach our children to be away from all these. Really unlucky if children do not listen to their parents. In worst scenario, both parents working in silly jobs can survive and educate their children without much hassle.
India is such a beautiful country! But we people have made it almost like a hell on earth. Biggest problem is the corruption. So corrupt!! Oh My God! Top to bottom corrupt govt. officials, politicians and now this disease has spread amongst the masses. Every corner of society has been corrupted. We can not get things done without "contacts" or paying bribes. Can anybody deny this fact? Simply put it, we do not have place of 1 billion people and not enough resources to have a standard of living enjoyed in Developed countries. We people have practically no idea how vast majority of our poor people survive. Very rarely do we get a glimpse of it. And nobody bothers about them. They constitute almost 30-35% of our population; 350-400 million people. They live a life which is unthinkable in Canada and even pets get better food and shelter in Canada than these people. India have no prospect with these 1.1 billion people.
However, there would be no end of the argument. At the end, my suggestion is that be happy where u r and no need to move to any other place if u r happy with ur life now. If not, why not try it in Canada?
Hi,
my story is almost similar to you, only thing I did not force my wife to join any stupid job for sake of money, Well just a frindly advise give at least 6 month more to your struggle and then decide.
Good Luck.
