Hi Kap,
Why should getting a visitors visa for your parents by tough? Would appreciate if you could pass on some more information on that.

Hi Binal,
Really SAD things for parent immigration. Now a days, visitor visa for parent also become tough now a day. You can not easily visit your parent at home country due to job in-security in Canada.

IMO, if Canada does not want to support immigrant's parents financialy they should offer discounted medical insurance or work out some scheme so that immigrant's parent can be in Canada on visitor visa and they are being supported by the sponsoring child. At present scenerio medical insurance for a parent of age +60 is $4 - $5 perday if baught in Canada. Atlest govt. will have incentive to allow our parents in Canada and in addition one of their body OHIP is getting fnancial support.

As every body know its taking extraordinary time to sponsor the parents I have a few questions:
My mother is a Canadian PR got her's in May 2003, Since then she had been in canada for 4 months, currently she is in India. At the time I sponsored my mom in Aug 2002, I did not include my dad as he still had few years services and did not wanted to take premature retirement as yet.
In June 2003 the rules changes and the PR could stay away from canada for 3 yrs out of 5 yrs. At that time in July 2003 I sent application to CPC mississauga to sponsor my father too. Got an ack from CPC in aug 2004 that the application for sponsorship is in process and will take another 10-12 months (quite unbeliveable). No file in Delhi yet as the CPC mississauga has to approve first which I am sure has no problems.
Now if CPC approves the application some time in 2005 to sponsor my dad, can I just forget out that and instead ask my mom to file a fresh application to sponsor her husband, will this be the right path. Will the process be a bit faster. Please make note my mother has no income in canada, will CPC refuse her case.
Also is there a minimum requirement of residency for my mom to sponsore my dad, till now she only has 4 months of residency.
My dad age is 60 and mom is 54
Answers to my questions will be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Abhishek

Thanks for your input jogo_desi
Simply ask ur Mom to go to Canadian Embassy and ask for Travel Document as she is still a PR of Canada she has been away less three year no need fill other application
I have gone through this thread ... and would like to add my 2 cents ...actually a 100 bucks..l
I have been here for over 3 years now and now just a couple of days back I applied for my mother's visitor visa. I was not surprised to know that she was rejected
Like all intelligent and knowlegeable person I had seen the prerequisites for applying and then gone ahead. my family income and assets and better than a average canadian (100k gross) (35k in bank)
Now I have applied my mothers name for family class immigration and was shocked to know it might take more than 4 years before she can join my wife and me.
This obviously points to few loopholes in the system
1. how can just processing a file (take more than 2 years in canada) which goes thro this process( me thinks ...)
a. applicant applies for his/her parents
b. mississauga office recieves the letter and the doc
c. mississauga office sleeps onthis for 2-3 months (because of the hugeeee... pileup
d. opens the file
c. checks the sponsors financial status (4 months max) and other stuff
e. passes this info to the indian/pakistani or any other consulate
(all this should never take 2 years) from this I draw this conclusion
1. the immigration system is based on policies made by some rich white lobby which have decided that it is not good to get old people here anyways as the health system is already breaking apart
2. The sense of respect for old age and taking care of your elderly parents is not a priority for Canadians (policy makers) for them all old people live in old age homes.
3. The asian/indian culture teaches us to take care of our parents, elderly people and give them respect no matter how high we go in life. We dont let our parents live in old age homes or far from us
Now lets see ....what we can do --- as new immigrants:
1. talk to our MPP's
2. make this an issue
3. file a class action lawsuit against Immigration Dept
4. every person on this forum should send a mail to
Joe Volpe , the immigration minister at
explaining his/her situation
5. send me a mail at and we can discuss this
