I have an old desktop that runs Win Xp and a laptop that runs Vista. I have a linksys 8011.g router. My laptop has wireless capability. My desktop can accept only ethernet cable
Is it possible to connect this computer or set network so that I can share files between them ?
Yes it is possible. There are several methods to get IP address of the computer. Once you know the IP Addresses of each of the computer, open the windows explorer and map the drives. If you need more detailed explaination just type yes or use google .

I beat rest of the techies/nerds/IT Pros who are eager to help on such a simple task and get a feeling of "I helped someone in dire need "...

It was just a joke, got hurt eh . Mind you, you also always try to pull others legs so, now when I pull your leg, you are hurt. can't you take it lightly? personal attack - are you declaring war? No way.... I want you on my side since I enjoy your sense of humour.
