Hi Everyone,
I am applying OCI for my husband, I am having issues with his name.
In his Indian passport First Name MiddleName1 and MiddleName2 Surname.
When we first immigrated to canada since his name was lenghty they cut short his name and in all the canadian documents as FirstName MiddleName1 and Last Name.
Now when I am applying the OCI, VFS complains that the name is not the same in all documents so they are requesting for a Name change certificate.
So, please advise if anyone has gone through the process and How can I apply for the name change with the canadian authorities.
Thanks...
I was in the same situation a few months ago. VFS needs a notarized affidavit stating the change of name. The affidavit is only going to be used for the purpose of issuing the OCI.
They gave me the format, I just typed it up and got it notarized. Cost around $20 to $30.
I don't think you have to go thru the formal name change process with the Canadian authorities. Check with VFS if the notarized affidavit will suffice.

I think OCI just wants to give hard time to people. They know they can take a note and record of all documents like Landed Paper, Old Indian passport and valid canadian passport. If 2 out of 3 documents are matching they should ask for other picture ID like driving licence, health Card and take a record of all available names if there is minor difference and go ahead with most accurate document whichever reasonable as far as Date of Birth and birth place and document ID numbers are given.
My friend is hanging around for 8 months for applying for OCI. He has shortened his name on valid canadian passport and VFS suggested him to wait untill he applys for new passport, when he will apply for new passport, he has to use same long name as printed on LANDED PAPER and on INDIAN PASSPORT which he landed in Canada.
It is true that NOTHING CAN BE SUCCESSFULLY DELT IN ONE SHOT or ONE TRIP IN INDIAN CONSULATE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.
Simple thing, just do whatever they want and finish it up. If you complain then you will be ready for more troubles in your way. Wish you good luck!
I think you have similar situation that same long names on Indian PASSPORT and Landed document but short name on CAN passport. If it is the case just simply fix it on Canadian passport as same on CANADIAN CITIZEN CERTIFICATE.

Meeting people is easy. Having meaningful connections is the hard part.
Thanks for your reply. In my husband's landing document, in the remarks section canadian immigration has written his full name ie, FN MN1 MN2 LN.
I spoke with VFS, one person said covering letter should suffix and the other person mentioned about affidavit. I will go to the Brampton VFS and go with the affidavit process.
Thanks again.

One more question , when submitting the Part A online do I need to type my husband's name ie., FN MN1 MN2 and LN as in the Indian passport
Step 2 Go by the Canadian passport
Step 3 Or go to the Brampton VFS and go by their advice.
Please let me know, to how did you submit the online form for OCI.
Thanks
