I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
I guess there is no better basmati rice then Tilda and Neesa is a close second
I live in Mississauga and I've tried every brand of Basmati rice available in the Desi store. We look for good packing, quantity of rice(i.e., rice is lost in the jute bag packaging), the smell, look of the plain rice. We also cook and find the quantity of cooked rice, the smell and also the digestability.
On the upside I found that based on all of the factors and trying out the Zafranis, Tildas, India gate and the cheap ones at 5 bucks for 10 pounds we found that the best was Tilda and closely followed by India Gate.
The value for money comes when you buy the 40 LBS packaging.
NOW THE DOWN SIDE:
Please read the following link and understand for yourself:
http://www.buzzle.com/articles/basmati-rice-glycemic-index.html
You'll realize that the GI for white rice is 58 while it is 45 for brown rice. Hence you have a better chance of not testing positive for Diabetes.
We South-Asians are highly prone to heart diseases and Diabetes.
What is the consequence due to be diabetic:
1.You'll find it difficult to obtain health insurance and even so you'll pay high premium.
2.Your eye sight will go down.
3.You'll have to be monitored for health very closely.
4.You are prime candidate for kidney failure, heart and other complications including amputation of body parts.
5.Your general life style goes down.
HENCE MY HUMBLE REQUEST IS TO MOVE AWAY FROM WHITE RICE AND BUY BROWN/WILD RICE.
Always check the Glycemic Index of the Rice before you buy it. Incidentally Indiagate also has brown rice.

Have heard a lot of the benefits of brown rice. But never tried having it. Was just wondering if brown rice tastes good with Indian curies and dishes and would like to hear the method and time of cooking?
