I will suggest Canada over Dubai; Canada is a beautiful Country and it enjoys the most benefit of the multiculturalism. You can make money in Dubai but the quality of living is very good in Canada. But both countries have extreme climates one is hot and other one is cold. Canada summer is very beautiful.

True. I agree with IC96.
Please go to Canada and slog over there and pay taxes which will help me when I come there at the age 65 to get my CPP and OAS.
Canada offers free education, health care, food stamps, welfare etc...
Please move over there and settle there. We need the economy to be strong!
Peace

UAE also seem to have implemented the residence visa for parents which gets processed as quickly as your employment visa. Parents can get to stay with you as long as you're there.

Weather is better there for old people plus getting along is easier given the demography, then your hometown would be just about 4 hours from there..

Mmmmm.. thinking...... doesn't really look like a good idea to get them here and let them slog the winter.

If u are doing well dont come here... especially if u are skilled and have to be qualified here.

Job market is bad .... very bad... this is what no one tells u when u move here.. start from scratch its frustrating - but u need to follow everything here by the books.

Ensure u have enough funds to survive without a job for a year.. if your spouse is coming too - then its a hard life.. nothing easy in Canada.. beleive me... dont come together - leave her behind - come find a job and then call the family.. or u will be in a sad state. I have seen friends who have come here in Aug last year - and both not working and are in a terrible state - one skilled and other unskilled - still they are not able get a job. No one likes to talk of the tough times they are facing here.. We are 4 families come and none are with jobs yet.. its very very frustrating..

Stay there if u can... make moni and go back to India to retire.

True Canada has benefits -

Education - not like India or Dubai - if u have small kids u never know what they are doing in school.. I dont like the schooling here... its better in Dubai or India.. atleast u were aware the kids are learning... read more about it.

Medical - govt only gives free consulation and medicines u need to pay for...
The first 4 months after u land here - u are not covered - so if u fall sick u pay or if u visit dental - u pay. Dental not covered. Specialist appointment u get after 4 months most of the time. If u need to see a gynae - wait for 4 months.... unless of course if u know otherwise. This is bad in Canada. So the day u land - its safe to opt for a medical insurance just incase... like I have to pull out a tooth with surgery and it cost me 700 CAD.. + medicines... read more on this too...

Even though u are covered by Govt, U need to take insurance for your BP, Cholestrol medications. There are so many hidden negative points which u will not know till u come.

Here job postings are quite funny actually - read a simple job posting for a Receptionist - and see the description - u will need to answer phones, be admin, do the books- jack of all trade for a receptionist salaries.
Office timings - be aware - some companies ask u to put it late hours.. u will know when u go for interview - they never tell u in the advert.
Be smart - plan well - then u can survive..
Basically Canada is not a piece of cake whatever people say - u will learn, there will be no help from friends, they all expect u to go thro the same bad phase as they have been.

I hope u have a better idea of what to expect here now.

ON the brighter side the weather has improved - less of snow.

Just a disclaimer that I am not 'venrasq'.
I am not sure why venrasq is unable to find suitable jobs.
He should network, try hard and also bring all his family members to Canada so that they all can enjoy the job and peace that Canada gives.
May be he is not in the plum " IT, Finance, Business, accountancy' profession.

Peace

The problem with us human beings is we tend to take things for granted when we are at a place and only get to highlight the negatives ..... When we were in India we found the ngatives of India , then wehen we came out we realized that there were goodies in India also as we decide to relocate back ....

Medical & Education : You should be happy that you are in Canada . True drugs are not covered , but every thing else is and even if you can't afford the drugs there are Plans like Trillium which cover for you if you are uninsured .

If you are diagnosed with major disease/s , the medicare pays for it ... all the therapy and everything .... I guess one needs to live in the US , unemployed and uninsured to discover the value of this blessing here ....

4 months of non coverage ... Can you back up your info with a link ??? Ontario needs 3 months and then from 1st day you are covered .. Provinces like NS , AB etc cover you from day one with no waiting period ....

Education ..... Again as human beings , we tend to belittle what ever is given to us for free ... I spoke recently with an acquaintance who is 13 yrs old has studies in India , Bahrain , Abu Dhabi and now here and he was all appreciation of the teachers here taking pains to explain doubts & concepts .... The education is there available ....... its up to you as well as to how much you can benefit ..

Lastly for jobs , its your own skill & competence also which dictates how much you are getting ........... Does not mean everyone is on $10/hr jobs or on welfare ..... And yes you have welfare and subsidies unlike elsewhere in case you are not able to do well on your own .... Doubt if you have that in India or the Middle East !!!

Difference b/w Dubai & Canada -- if you do not have job for longer period , the system will take care of you .... if you don't have a job in Dubai , well you will be thrown out in 30 days ....

Even after spending a life time in Dubai , you / your children will never get a permanent status ... In Canada , you get that from Day 1 .....

I am yet to find people who have returned from here w/o getting their citizenship .... even after all the cribbing and insults they throw on Canada ....
