Today's poll indicates most of you will leave after citizenship. Why did you then bother to come here? What was the promise that brought you here. We have all struggled thru life here and yes no one says it is easy but come on...if all u want is citizenship...what gives? Surely your life is better than that. Surely you do not want to go back because you left there for a reason other than spending 2 lakhs and waiting 3 years and then waiting another 4 or so for citizenship. Surely your life is better than just giving up because you think you can't make it here! Stick to it and stick together....we can all make it and we can make this a better place. hopefully your lives are better than ones to waste in just getting a piece of paper saying you \\\"belong\\\" to another country. Surely you are above that...today and always

Hi because this is not a fast moving country. People come here with american syndrom , but this is most slow progressing country. You loose your respect here, though you survive, you cannot talk hitech, cannot walk hitech.
Canada is surviving because of U.S.A. neighbourhood.

Do you think I will work for coffee shop or pizza shops even after doing Ph.D. that too life long?
I think you have answer.

Hi ff,
People persuing PHDs or professional careers do take up part time odd jobs to sustain their daily lifestyle (nothing wrong in doing so:up: )
However ur assumption of a lifelong coffee shop job for a phd/professional is a bit too extreem.

if canada is a "most slow progressing country" I wonder how it became to be called a G8 country !!!!!!

faltu, zen and er..
I fall under that category. Not only did I do my Ph.D here in Canada, but I was fortunate enough to do it under a very knowledgable person...I am sure it will help me thorught my natural working career.
I got my PR, after abt 9 months into my Phd and got my citizenship just after I finished my PhD :)

Did not have to pay any tution fees (got a full tution fee waiver - as an International student and as a PR). Got teaching assistantship and Research Assistantships throughout these years. So didnt have to work anywhere else.

Unfortunately, the field I am in, very jobs are available in Canada. Mostly in the Govt and for that I need to really struggle here. So if I am getting offers in the USA, why shouldnt I take it :) ? Afterall I wanted that... Never had any intention of staying here...

Thats why I ask prospective immigrants. Are they coming for 1$=33INR or are they coming for a better life style ?

Whole canada has same type of electrical switch- nothing fancy about it.

whole canada has only one design of bathroom tub and shower..

Whole canada has only big big size cell phones , not eve 5% people own cell phones. there are hardly any slim , latest devices seen here.

Only Japanese or Korean cars do better. American cars are not so efficient.

People pay 6 times more for every product here. and 90% of products are coming from china.

I found only three brands of TV here which are belonging to Baba Adam ke jamane ka.... sears, sylvania and blah..blah.. which even my naukar will not use in India.

I went to one big store they had only one variety of webcam.

Also taxes here are very very heavy, 15% before you eat anything or buy anything.

travelling 40 kms say from scarborogh to square one takes nearly 3 hours, in which country it takes some much time for 45 kms? . G8 huh......

it takes one hour to open a bank account

Primary and secondary education is horrible.

it takes 3 days to repair a telephone cable fault here after work commencement..

Tell me what kind of country it is ? is it fast progressing except for 1000s tim hortons, nude resorts,1000s strip tease clubs with imported dancers,1000s pizza shops, and all bakwas.

Sorry my friends i am bit funny , but i have narrated the real facts. This country i can say is very very slow progressing , every native canadian is under the huge debt surviving on loans, credit cards, lease etc. Most of canadians even well to do are ill dressed.

One of my pakistani friend said, canadians cannot afford a taxi and luxury, they are good for backpacking , cheap travel and cheap fun. ofcourse easy and relaxed life is plus point.

Umm Faltu, I could understand some cryptic meaning hidden in your previous statements. However, this one confounded me. Pls. a Pakistani's view point abt Canadian lifestyle :D ( just a big LOL).. Thank heavens, I have not been tagged a 'Paki' as Pakistanis have been tagged in the UK... At least ppl here are educated enough to know the difference between Pakistanis and the remaining 'brownies'

As a corollory, my (French) Canadain landlord often mentions this abt Pakistani's.. they love the ghetto's generally prefer working as unskilled labourers and get caught when sneaking into the country illegaly.
Backpacking is a real thrill; a trait I have learnt here from the Canadians. In fact, these guys even taught me the art of living in Hostels ! Believe me, its great staying in a hostel rather that with ur Chacha and Mama etc. :D (Hope you are getting the point)

Intersting post ........ nice read !!

But by that logic ....... u can get career / job / professional satisfaction in India itself -- which cant b matched even in the US . The moment u stay out of India for say 10 yrs u r out of pace and the race as well.

Its a kind of balance 1 has 2 make b/w life & career . As sm1 remarked that whatever progress India makes it stays 10 yrs behind . At the same time Canada provides a decent living 2 all . An apartment / car - clean roads /traffic and infrastructure is enough 2 atrract the sundry . Its only later that 1 realises the monotony . But 4 every Indian wishing 2 return there are 50 waiting come over . Talk of diminishing law of returns !!

I recall what an American born cousin had told me 10 yrs back \" all Indians who think they are having a high lifestyle are below the lifestyle of an average American \" . I know what that means now . U cant change the system and the infrastructure and the population load on it . !!
