What is Canadian Experience? Immigrants Puzzle! By: Many new arrivals to Canada and Toronto in particular discover that they cannot get an IT job as soon as they arrive - no matter their level of skill or experience. The reasons given usually center around language skills and lack of "Canadian experience". article.php?id=9 |
Also, if a Canadian comes to you and says "These Indians, they don't have basic computer skills, they're dumb..." would you call him a racist?
And if yes, would you call yourlself a racist for saying the same about them?
I don't see how people can make statements like that. Sure, I may have met a "gora" who's in IT and does not know the I from the T, but that hardly says anything about all "goras".

I totally agree. Hopefully we can apply to all Canadians, not just desis. I don't think its right to ask people if they're desis or not before helping them.

I do. And sorry, you are mistaken . Desi does not mean Indian. Someone from Pakistan could also be a desi.

Hmm...somehow that sounds like discrimination to me.
I've been in North America for about 10 years now and on several ocassions (like when I had an accident on a highway or when my car broke down), total strangers (Americans and Canadians both) have come forward to help me. I ddn't even have to ask them and they really went out of their way.
I'd feel like a creep if I did not reciprocate. That's my reason.
