Hi All,
It's been 4 days since i have landed in Canada and its been so far so good.
I need your help to find the smartest way to get to a G License.
I say smartest because the smartest way may not be the cheapest way to start with but eventually i would save money.
I called up MTA and they said since i have more than 5 years driving experience in India i can give me written exam and pass vision test to get the G1 license. Then when i am ready i can give the road test for the G license.
I have a few questions related to money and locations, i will ask the location question first
1) I know we have to register in advance for the road test but do we need to register in advance for the for the vision and knowledge test too?
2) I am in mississauga and i know i have to go to Brampton for the driver's test in the future, but do i have to go to Brampton for the knowledge exam and the vision test too? If no then any website links where i can find locations within mississauga where i can give the knowledge as well as the vision test?
Now the money questions:
1)Everyone has told me that by taking the approved drivers training course my insurance will come down. Assuming this to be true i will have to spend $854 including taxes for that course. $854 was quoted to me by a company near to where i live. Is this quote reasonable or am i overcharged?
2) If i get a G1 then how much do i pay. Do i have to pay $125 and get a G1 license and then pay seperately for a G road test. I am confused because i will not take a G1 road test but directly a G road test.
Finally any website/link that some of the questions i can find in the exam. :-))
Thanks all for your help.
Thanks,
Chittesh

No. It's a walk-in

You don't have to go to Brampton for either test. You can take the test anywhere in the province.

I feel you're being overcharged. With rising gas prices, the rates may have gone up, but not that much. I may be wrong here. I would look around and call a few other places.
2) If i get a G1 then how much do i pay. Do i have to pay $125 and get a G1 license and then pay seperately for a G road test. I am confused because i will not take a G1 road test but directly a G road test.
Now you only pay the initial fee which is around $75. You don't have to pay for the G1 test. When you go for the G2 exit you'll have to pay for that separately, around $75.
Goodluck......and welcome to Canada !!!
Since you're landed, could you change your location.
